Bound in contemporary red polished calf with blind embossed covers and gilt and blind embossed spine, gilt turn-ins, marbled boards and edges. Very Good, boards lightly rubbed, light toning throughout, the small contemporary bookplate of Edouard Aubert front paste down. The ownership signature of J.B. Girard, US Army, April 10th,1893 at front end page. Joseph Basil (J. B.) Girard (1846-1918) emigrated from France to the United States in 1861. He served in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1867-1910, and was stationed at several army posts throughout his military career.. First Edition. Polished Calf. Very Good/No Jacket, As Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
