Descripción:
Garden City, New York:: Doubleday,, 1942.. Hardcover first edition -. Pencilled notation indicating that this was from a store's lending library - stamp of store on endpaper, but no other markings. The dustjacket was originally covered by an old-style protector with black edges - and these black edges left some marks on the endpapers. Otherwise the book is in very good condition and the dustjacket is in exceptionally good condition - bright and attractive with only the slightest bit of fading to the red on the spine, and a small amount of dampstaining visible on the upper corner of the front flap. . First US printing. A Crime Club selection. An Inspector Arnold mystery, published in the UK as 'This Undesirable Residence.' An uncommon title by this writer (who also wrote mysteries under the name of John Rhode.)

Publisher’s lettered limited edition, Near Fine to Fine book with slight edge crease to middle of a couple pages around p. 150, tiny spot front page edges, and slight push top of spine, in a similar slipcase with slight shelf and edge wear; no dust jacket as issued. This is Hillerman’s completely out of series mystery. The story is about a man’s search for a relative, a missing grandchild, that takes him into Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. He has taken the liberty of naming the characters based upon his comrades in the 410 Infantry, C Company of WWII.This is one of the very rare Harper lettered limited editions of which 26 were done for the last three limited titles produced by Harper (i.e., there were only 78 such lettered editions). The lettered limiteds were not for sale but were reserved for private distribution by the publisher and Hillerman. This copy originally belonged to dust jacket artist, Peter Thorpe. Thorpe did the jacket and slipcase designs for all the Harper Hillerman… Leer más

The area of the Central Valley where fourteen–year–old Lacey May and her alcoholic mother live was once an agricultural paradise. Now it's an environmental disaster, a place of cracked earth and barren raisin farms. In their desperation, residents have turned to a cult leader named Pastor Vern for guidance. He promises, through secret "assignments," to bring the rain everybody is praying for.Lacey has no reason to doubt the pastor. But then her life explodes in a single unimaginable act of abandonment: her mother, exiled from the community for her sins, leaves Lacey and runs off with a man she barely knows. First Edition. (1993) Hardcover with d.j. Fine with near fine dust jacket. D.J. has slight curl on top edge and light rubbing on back. No worn edges. Tight binding with clean, sharp pages. No markings. 305 pages. Dolores Claiborne is a psychological thriller novel. The novel is narrated by the title character. Atypically for a King novel, it has no chapters, double-spacing between paragraphs, or other section breaks; thus the text is a single continuous narrative which reads like the transcription of a spoken monologue. This book is dedicated to King's mother: "For my mother, Ruth Pillsbury King."

Collins White Circle Pocket Edition #228. Great 1940s cover! Colonel Anthony Gethryn must prove a man innocent of a murder he's been convicted for in only 5 days. MacDonald was a great practitioner of the mystery-suspense genre; his books remain readable, even if his characters are nowhere near as enlightened as we tend to be today. Please read this volume in its historical context. A very clean copy, spine slightly darkened with very faint reading crease: see photos.
