New York: New Directions, 1946. Hardcover. Very Good +/good +. 6 x 8 in. Green cloth boards. No subsequent printing dates stated. Condition is VERY GOOD+ ; no wear, covers extremely clean, a touch toned at edges. BInding tight and text unmarked. PO's initials on front pastedown. DJ is GOOD+ ; not price-clipped ($3.50) cleamn but spine is very sunned, edges chipped, 3 closed tears, some loss to spine ends. In a new Mylar wrapper. Poetry. RGR.

1946 New Directions first edition, first printing. First state binding in green cloth. 500 Fifth Avenue address in copyright notice.
Condition of the book is Very Good. The binding is straight and sound. Inside pages are complete. Two leaves in the introduction section have had small corners removed (dog ears), else no internal damage that I found. The prior owner's first names are written on the front free endpaper.
Condition of the dust jacket is Very Good. The DJ is complete, not price clipped. It shows light shelf wear. The DJ is protected in a new mylar cover.

(New York): A New Directions Book, 1946. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. First edition, first issue binding [Rolph B11; 4000 copies printed]. Introduction by John L. Sweeney. Green cloth with black and gilt spine title. Endpapers are quite tanned (as usual), with offset tanning on half-title page and final text leaf (as usual), rear cover of first-issue binding has a one-inch (faint) damp stain, else a very good copy, with the binding bright, text otherwise fresh and clean, in good, first issue dust jacket (with front panel stating "Lowry" at lower corner, and with correct publisher's address "500 Fifth Ave." on rear panel). The dust jacket has moderate fading and wear on spine, small chip at crown (slightly touching printed lettering), front panel is faded, with wear and few small chips at extremities (along fore-edge and also along edge of spine), rear panel has a few small chips, with one-inch, nicked tear, and few spots of light dampstaining (visible on unprinted verso).

Likely second issue with publisher's address of "333 Sixth Avenue" on copyright page instead of "500 Fifth Avenue," as New Directions moved to 333 Sixth Avenue after 1946 and by 1953. Bound in publisher's rose cloth with gilt spine letters blocked in black. Dust jacket with earlier Fifth Avenue address and with "Lowry" on the bottom corner of the front panel. It is assumed, though not certain that this would be the first issue of the dust jacket, and that the first issue cloth is green. Very Good with fading to spine, trivial foxing to endsheets. In a Very Good unclipped dust jacket with spine fading, soiling, toning, edge wear and a short split started at the bottom of the front flap fold. Rolph B11.
