Colour illustrated endpapers, being a blue flower motif reproduced many times against a pale yellow background. Colour illustrated frontispiece, showing a Victorian cake in all its glory. Text is illustrated with numerous colour illustrated cakes, black-and-white photography and illustrations of cakes with numerous black-and-white advertisements for the professional cook/Manufacturer in the Victorian period. Yellow coloured boards with gilt titles to the backstrip. A little rubbing to the book edges and faint age toning of the text block edge. Colour illustrated dustwrapper, same illustration as for frontispiece, with brown coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. A little creasing to the dustwrapper edges and fading to the lower backstrip edge. A book that was first published at the turn of the 20th century, dealing with the making/manufacture of cakes, biscuits, fancy goods -- any form of sugar craft and its decoration. There is a note put in by the publishers stating "This is a reproduction of a authentic Victorian cake recipe book, written for professional bakers. The recipes were not intended for home use. Therefore ingredients, quantities, methods, and instructions were based on original professional recipes and should be regarded as such. The notes to the modern reader contain helpful advice on adapting recipes and the ingredients have been adjusted to modern measurements; however, the publishers cannot guarantee success." -- from the publication data page.
