Inscribed in the year of publication on the half title: "For William Trueheart, a fellow veteran, with the best of wishes, Charlton Ogburn, 1966." This book won the John Burroughs Medal for natural history writing. William Trueheart is probably the Trueheart who was shortly after the Ambassador to Nigeria and later a diplomat in Vietnam. A near fine book with some sunning to lower boards and a line of blue ink to outer text block. In a very-good-plus jacket with general wear to edges and to the folds of spine, as well as some sunning to edges, though only noticeable on white flaps. Presents great under mylar. Uncommon signed.
