There are only 2 Library rubber stamp imprints, 1 on the inside front cover, 1 on the FEP. There is a former booksellers' note in pencil on the 1st title page, & another bookseller's note in pen along the inner edge of the title page. There aren't any other writing or marks. The DJ has mostly spine- wear & light shelfwear, with a bit of tanning on the top back & inside top. William Morrow & Co, 1966. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. Inscribed in the year of publication on the half title: "For William Trueheart, a fellow veteran, with the best of wishes, Charlton Ogburn, 1966." This book won the John Burroughs Medal for natural history writing. William Trueheart is probably the Trueheart who was shortly after the Ambassador to Nigeria and later a diplomat in Vietnam. A near fine book with some sunning to lower boards and a line of blue ink to outer text block. In a very-good-plus jacket with general wear to edges and to the folds of spine, as well as some sunning to edges, though only noticeable on white flaps. Presents great under mylar. Uncommon signed.

NY: William Morrow & Company, 1971. First edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. Inscribed on the title page in blue ink: "For Louise D-- [sp?], To whom, with her husband, I am glad to say that my books owe much. With all good wishes, Charlton Ogburn, July 1985." An apparent association copy, possibly a good one as suggested by the inscription, but unfortunately we can't  make out the last name of the recipient. Uncommon signed in any case. Ogburn won the John Burroughs Medal for natural history writing in 1967 for The Winter Beach, his tour of the Atlantic Shore, and here he travels in the same "little camping bus" across the country to survey its landscape and natural history in the tradition of Roger Tory Peterson and James Fisher's Wild America (1953). Green paper boards, blue cloth spine, topographical map endpapers, blue topstain. A very good book on account of a bump and resulting slight interior tear to upper front board near spine; in a very good jacket with a short tear in that same… Leer más
