Spine slightly darkened, otherwise fine. Matching slipcase. Printed on vélin teinté, this is one of 50 copies with a suite of the wood engravings on japon pelure. The 41 engravings in the suite are mounted and bound in at the end.

A fine and clean copy in an early fine binding of half green morocco. The spine has two raised bands, each with decorative gilt tooling. Tan title label, gilt. Gilt ruled box designs. There is an illustrated multi coloured leather onlay design to the middle of the spine showing a couple walking in the rain, under an umbrella. Blue cloth on boards. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. Previous owners colour bookplate to the front paste down. A fine copy in a fine binding. The binding is unsigned but certainly the work of a master bookbinder.

Longmans, Green, and Co. London. 1885. FIRST EDITION. Small 8vo. (6.5 x 4.5 inches). One small area of loss (finger nail sized) to the bottom inner margin of one page, well away from the printed text, and a few finger marks but otherwise a very good copy. Finely bound in recent full dark blue morocco leather. Spine with raised bands. Compartments ruled and decorated in gilt. Twin red labels, gilt. Single gilt ruled border to both boards. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. An attractive copy of this charming book.

Spines with blind ruled bands and lettered in gilt. Gilt stamped Author's symbol device to the front boards. Blue marbled endpapers. Top edges gilt. Each volume with a red silk page marker. Housed in a red cloth covered slip case with marbled paper lining. The spines are a bit rubbed and there are a couple of small scratches but overall this is an attractive set of this important collection. Only a few sets were issued in these publishers delux leather bindings and they seldom turn up on the market.

Interior pages are uncut with some chipped and tears to edges, some foxing spots and smudges. Pages are wavy to the touch. Endpapers have some foxing and smudges, small tear to paper on front hinge Number 90 of a limited edition of 375: "This edition consists of three hundred and seventy-five copies printed for America by Unwin Brothers, of London, England".
