1531. Basel, in Officina Frobeniana (Per Hieronymum Frobenium, & Nicolaum Episcopium), 1531. Small 8vo. Bound in a lovely, charming early 19th century red half calf with gilt title and lines to spine and lovely gold and red ornamented "romantic" paper over boards. A bit of wear to spine. Internally a very fine and clean copy. Title-page slightly soiled, and a vague marginal dampstain throughout, on most leaves barely visible. Froben printer's device to title-page, and in a larger version to verso of last leaf. Four large woodcut initials. 76, (44) pp. The extremely scarce first printing, of both the original Greek text and the translation into Latin, of Parthenius's only surviving work, the historiographically, mythographically, and literarily hugely important "Erotica Pathemeta" (or "Sorrows of Love"), which constitutes the only prose work by a Hellenistic poet to survive in its entirety and one of the few extant works of its genre, i.e the mythological or paradoxographical handbook, preserved… Leer más

1709 BEAUTIFUL 1ed Octavius Minucius Felix Pagan Evangelism Fine Binding Arms
Marcus Minucius Felix was a 3rd-century Roman scholar who is remembered only for being an advocate of Christianity in a pagan Roman world. His only known work was "Octavius" – a narrative dialogue between a Christian and a pagan. Much of this work was influenced by Cicero's "Nature of the Gods" and was written to convince non-Christians to convert from their pagan ways.
This 1709 Latin edition was edited by Jacobus Gronovius.

Ekdotikos Oichos Patris E.P.E., Athens, 1960; 8vo (7" x 9 3/4"), 520 pages; illustrated. Landmark translation of Thucydides’ fifth century B.C. History, from the original Classic Greek into Modern Greek, by eminent Greek scholar and statesman Eleutherios Venizelos, seven times Prime Minister of Greece, who was instrumental in the formation of the modern Greek State. Painstakingly written over a period of seven years, Venizelos’ translation is noted, among other aspects, for his use of katharevousa, a modern Greek style closer to classic Greek than the demotic vernacular, in order to correct later accretions and bring the language closer to that of Thucydides’ original. Copious commentary and analysis by Venizelos, plus substantive prefaces by Stefanos I. Stephanou, Dimitrios Kaklamanos, Andreas Mikalopotaos and Konstantin D. Stergiopoulos. Illustrated with frontispiece Venizelos portrait plate, five color fold-out maps, six full-page b&w photo plates of various associated Greek… Leer más

Cover is disbound for three inches at the top front cover. From there on all pages are bound well, none missing, and really in pretty good condition. Pages are crisp and clean. It's a First Edition, thus the still high-end price for a collector's item. Someone adept at re-binding can have themselves a wonderful book after a little attention. After all, it is "Lawrence of Arabia." . First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. History.

Venetiis: Ex typographia Remondini, 1751. Hardcover. See Description. 12mo. pp. 143, [1]. Title page is printed in red and black. Bound in modern quarter brown cloth with brown patterned paper boards. The edges of the leaves are untrimmed and ragged. The interior displays some marginal soiling and wear with occasional chipping and corner creasing. A tear on the lower part of page 19 is professionally and neatly sealed. The upper corner to the final leaf of the index is chipped/torn perhaps affecting a few numbers or letters. The imprint statement on the title page contains some rubbing which obstructs two letters in the word "typographia." A few brief instances of marginalia are written in a miniscule old hand. The corner of the head cap is neatly patched. Generally this is a well read copy. Cornelius Nepos (c. 99-24 b.c.e) was a Roman writer and historian.
