Contemporary blindstamped calf over wooden boards, spines with ribbons, red morocco title-labels on spines, small cupper-cornerpieces. The photograph shows an interesting set, but we have to mention the following imperfections: 1) all clasps gone; 2) foot and top spines partly damaged, of 1 spine leather of upper compartment gone; 3) 1 corner of 2nd volume damaged and cornerpiece missing; 4) leather of first hinge vol. 5 broken, but hinge still holding strong; 5) rubbed in places, with loss of layer of leather. - With 5 title-pages, printed in red and black, with large title-vignettes and engraved frontispiece "L. Tops and feet spines, resp. hinges partly dam.; corners bumbed and sl. dam., 1 title-label gone but in all a good condition of the binding (see photograph); interior state exceptional clean (convent stamp on verso titles and in margin first pages). Bound in contemporary boards, covered with marbled paper, with red title-labels on spines (feet and tops spines partly sl. dam. with a few loss of marbled paper, edges sl. bumped). - Each volume: (iv pp.: half-title & title); a few leaves "Exposé Analytique"; between 400 pp. and 500 pp. "Receuil des lois..." the greater part of the texts also in Dutch. The Dutch text printed opposite French text; and, at the end "Table Alphabétque". 7 volumes with "Supplément". In volume 14 the whole "Code du Commerce". "Table": orig. printed wrappers, sl. soiled, spine repaired. The whole set published on handmade paper, uncut, the index-vol. limited to 200 numbered copies. Each volume about 300 pages, with a different woodcut headpiece. - Remarks on first pages of the first vol. in old ink and on each title old ownership-inscription "Albert Spitaels". Interesting set. The publisher's date on titles is 1784, except for the volumes 9 (1778), 15 and 16 (1781), 19 - 21 (1783), 8 (1785), 25-30 (1786), 31-33 (1788) and 34-36 (1789). Printed on handmade paper, uncut. Copies with wide margins . The set is carefully collated, so we mention every (minor) defect: the verges of the uncut margins soiled; a small number of leaves: browned or soiled; some with light, mostly marginal, waterstain; margins of plates a bit soiled, the frontisp.-portraits with brown spots. 1 general title and 1 sub-title missing; tear repaired in 3 leaves.. This monthly magazine founded in 1880 appeared in 120 facicules, together 21 volumes. This complete set has 18 volumes bound in half leather and 2 volumes in 12 fascicules. It is a combined set, so not uniformly bound. The set has two parts ?Bibliographie Moderne? which presents various areas such as science, fine arts, history, but mainly literature and ?Bibliographie Retrospective? focused on bibliophiles, portraits of great collectors ancient and contemporary, public sales descriptions, technical bookbinding ...
