HATFIELD BOOKS AND MEMORABILIA, a FIVE STAR SELLER, presents ONE OF ONLY FIFTY COPIES IN THE WORLD from the LIMITED and SIGNED FIRST EDITION of POEMS AT HOME by JAMES WHITCOMB RILEY. VERY GOOD PLUS condition. Bowen-Merrill of Indianapolis (L. Frank Baum's publisher, later becoming Bobbs-Merrill) was Riley's first publisher (after all, he was an Indiana guy). Bowen-Merrill had a disastrous fire in 1890, destroying most of the business and taking 10 lives. This volume was published by Century in New York, yet this 50 volume LIMITED EDITION seems to have been controlled by Bowen-Merrill. Opposite the copyright page appears: "Of this First Impression of Poems Here at Home, Fifty copies…..have been issued with an autographed portrait on japan vellum (signed by) The Bowen-Merrill Co. (printed) This is Number (penned) 14." A SIGNED FRONTISPIECE PORTRAIT OF THE AUTHOR is present. 4 1/2" x 7", 187 pages in Very Good Plus condition, with some smudging and light tanning. Descripción:
HATFIELD BOOKS AND MEMORABILIA, a FIVE STAR SELLER, presents an EXTREMELY RARE Canadian bilingual edition of Longfellow's EVANGELINE in NEAR FINE condition. While penned in English, the story of EVANGELINE is Acadian (Nova Scotia), thus the dual English and French texts are most appropriate. Indeed, the private inscription in this softcover copy indicates it was purchased in 1963 in Nova Scotia. Printed and bound by Hazell Watson and Viney Ltd., Aylesbury and Slough, England, dimensions are 4 3/8" x 7 1/4", 126 pp., with light to moderate tanning on pages, some sunning to cover, but never read, owner inscription on first fep, overall condition = NEAR FINE. The cover is very light green mottled glossy paper w/ photo of statue and church front, particulars in turquoise. The French translation by Lemay has been used in a number of different editions dating back to 1865. Noted appraiser James Beattie, while remarking that no copies of this have been sold for 40 years, has attached a value of $225.00

HATFIELD BOOKS AND MEMORABILIA, a FIVE STAR SELLER, presents a VERY RARE ASSOCIATION COPY of the 1828 collection of historical Scottish prose and verse, JACOBITE MINSTRELSY. Though yet unverified, the early owner, signed Edward Sugden, is presumably EDWARD SUGDEN, First Baron of St. Leonards, Lord Chancellor of Ireland under both King William IV and Queen Victoria, and (for one year only) Lord Chancellor of Great Britain under Queen Victoria. 1828 is the stated publishing date, while 1829 appears in Roman numerals on title page, making this a very early printing. 3 1/4" x 5 1/4", 362 pages, plus 8 pages of index. No jacket as designed. Cover is marbled grey and brown boards with ¼ bound brown cloth, including at corners, titled in gold gilt on the binding. The front cover is separated, making the overall condition Very Good rather than Near Fine. A note follows the final printed page: "Robert Malcolm, printer." A sales sticker appears on front reverse… Leer más
