Full calf. Probable first issue of the Stowe Edition with Chaucer's arms dated 1560 and before woodcut additions. Relative to the precedence of issues of the 1561 Stowe edition David R. Carlson ("The Woodcut Illustrations in Early Printed Editions of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales," in Chaucer Illustrated: Five Hundred Years of The Canterbury Tales in Pictures [British Library, 2003]) states "the most plausible explanation seems to be that the printer and publisher of the [Stowe] edition, came into possession of the woodcuts belatedly after most of the press work for the edition had been done. After obtaining the blocks, they ran up a new issue of the beginning of the book, incorporating a "General Prologue" illustrated with woodcut. In all documented cases, the unillustrated [i.e. first]"General Prologue" occurs with a title page showing the Chaucer arms, dated 1560 at the top of the shield. Inscribed by Bertolucci in Italian to Walter Alferol on title page. Full green morocco faded to brown with debossed decoration to front cover. Marbled endpapers. 36 original tipped-in silver gelatin prints, 1 color print of the film crew , and 1 loose silver gelatin print. All beautifully printed. Loss to tail of spine and its leather is detached from back cover board. Discoloration to spine edge. Unpaginated. 12 1/2 x 13 3/4 inches.

Two volume set. Original full speckled calf professionally rebacked in calf; pastedowns renewed; fly sheets and title mounted. Complete with 300 full-page hand-colored copper plates (2 folding). Miller was the chief gardener at the Chelsea Physic Garden, where many of the engravings were made under his supervision. Two volumes bound in one complete with 18 foldout maps. Pagination is as follows: Part I pp. 132 [129-142 repeated] then continues from 133-168. Part II pp. 54-55 are misnumbered 55-54, while pp. 86-87 is misnumbered 90-91. The correction slip on p. 80 of the second part contains the revised list of 22 parishes of Guadeloupe. Front board is detached; rear board nearly so. Six raised bands. Wear to all edges; loss to tail of spine but nonetheless a good restorable copy. Several tape residues to plates near gutters, as well as image transfers at folds (see images). Some lower, circa 1 inch, folds separated. Modest bookplate to front pastedown, but otherwise a clean copy with no previous owners' names or other defacements.

Engraved frontispiece featuring vignette of the King's Library with illuminated initials at each header, as well as a facsimile of the William Seres original 1567 title page. Very rare (none on WorldCat & only one at auction in the last century) panorama of Cairo. This copy in unique original color measuring 39.75 x 16 in (101 x 40.5 cm). Dry mounted to board. First Jaillot edition but possibly preceded by an edition of his father-in-law, Jacques Callot, which is now lost. (Cf.Christie's 20 July 2018). Engraved on two sheets that are joined. Title cartouche to upper left corner, with another cartouche describing the Sphinx to the upper right corner (see images).
