No place: No publisher, 1914. Unbound. Fine. A 1901 Frederic Remington illustration of a cowboy with the title and author printed at the top. Poster board, matted and framed behind glass. Matted to approximately 15" x 19". We have not examined the poster out of the frame, but the visible part of the image is about fine, with a tiny tear on the top, and a thin strip of very light tanning along the bottom, and with no other evidence of further damage behind the mat. The first edition of the book was published in 1914, which seems consistent with the age of the poster, although it might have been prepared for a contemporary reprint. Nice, large Remington image.

Goldstone collection of early Western Fiction. This copy is in Very Good condition with a very good unclipped ($2.00) dustjacket. There is overall moderate age toning with some minor wear to the extremities, rubbing to the cloth boards and some soiling to the page ends--a well read copy--but also tight and square with no compromise to the binding or spine. The rare dustjacket is bright and colorful, missing some of the paper at the heel of the spine--and with light chipping at the head of the spine and a couple of closed end tears. The verso of the dustjacket has a Paramount Picture advertisement of the movie starring J. Warren Kerrigan and Lois Wilson--. Filmed twice by Paramount Pictures, originally in 1926 as a silent film, directed by John Waters, with Jack Holt; and in 1937, directed by Charles Barton, with Buster Crabbe and June Martel. Book with faint rubbing to extremities and light age-toning to endpapers, else in fine condition; dust jacket with a few closed tears with associated creases, moderate paper loss, primarily to corners and spine ends, and some soiling to rear panel, else fine.

Faint toning to page margins, else book in fine condition; upper corner rubbed and light toning to spine and upper edge of flaps, else dust jacket in fine condition.

Very fine in a dust jacket with minor wear, else fine. The jacket is much more attractive than usual for this book. The scarcest of Welch's novels, especially in nice condition.

Clean, tight and without writing in any volume, each in Very Good, very good plus condition. Each bound in red and tan cloth with blue topstain ranging from faded to brilliant. Two volumes come with rice paper as examples of how volumes were originally sold.
Zane Grey (1872-1939), in addition to being an author was also a dentist and played baseball for the University of Pennsylvania (1895). Also included is a check for $100 (adjust for inflation, $1,800) made out to Sid Boerstler, Grey's long-time captain of the sailing ship Marechal Foch (retrofitted and renamed by Grey as Fisherman) from 1928. Only ten copies in libraries, according to WorldCat databases. When published, the pamphlet was sent to newspapers and magazines across the Pacific Northwest and probably a few select places in California and the East Coast; most were likely tossed into the proverbial round file. It has since taken its place in Pacific Northwest history, being reprinted in the six-volume Oregon Literature Series anthologies done by Oregon State University Press in the 1990s, and still considered controversial today.
