Descripción:
New York: Boni and Liveright, 1926. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. First edition, second issue. Foreword by Allen Tate. Near fine in near fine dustwrapper. Hart Crane's own copy of his first book, with his later ownership Signature: "Hart Crane, Aug. '31" and his bookplate on the front pastedown. Apparently Hart Crane's mother either gave away or sold some of his bookplates shortly after his death to Crane's good friend, the bookseller Samuel Loveman, thus resulting in occasional "association copies" surfacing. However, all of the books that we have seen Signed by him (with the exception of the signed and limited edition of *The Bridge*) were from his personal library.

Descripción:
New York: Modern Library, (1946). Hardcover. Very Good in a Very Good dustwrapper. Reprint of this popular collection which features Frost's essay on poetry, "The Constant Symbol," as an introduction. This copy has been SIGNED by the author and INSCRIBED to minor poet and folklorist Addison Barker with the complete eight-line poem "The Pasture," the first poem in the book, in the poet's hand on the page opposite the title page. The recipient's signature is on the front endpaper above a pasted newspaper photograph of Frost, and Barker has noted on the title page the date Frost wrote the poem in the book: 25 January 1950. Barker has an interesting connection to Frost in that in 1951 he published the discovery of the very first appearance in print (BLUM'S FARMER'S AND PLANTER'S ALMANAC FOR 1850) of the proverb "Good fences make good neighbors." Barker tried to find an earlier, New England appearance before publication in the North Carolina almanac but was unsuccessful. There were previous variants on… Leer más

Descripción:
New York: Wiley and Putnam, 1845. First edition in book form of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven," the single most famous American poem of the nineteenth century, first published earlier that year in the New York Evening Mirror (under Poe's own name) and The American Review (under a pseudonym). Partly inspired by the early lyrics of Elizabeth Barrett (later Browning), to whom he dedicated this volume of poems, Poe composed "The Raven" in trochaic octometer, with a deranged musicality all his own. The elements are familiar even to those who don't read poetry: the "midnight dreary," the silk-curtained chamber, the raven perched upon the bust of Athena, the relentless refrain that drives the narrator mad. "'Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken! / Leave my loneliness unbroken! - quit the bust above my door! / Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!' / Quoth the Raven, 'Nevermore.'" Even before publication, Poe knew he had a sensation on his hands. When… Leer más

APOLLINAIRE, Guillaume (1880-1918)
First draft manuscript for the poem "Le Voyageur", from the poem collection Alcools
N.p.n.d [c. 1909-1910], 2 p. in-4to, black ink, multiple corrections.
Fold marks, very slight missing bit on top right corner without affecting the text, some small tears on left hand margin.
First draft, unpublished manuscript with multiple corrections for "Le Voyageur", one of the most beautiful and important poems of the Alcools
collection.
Apollinaire has drawn, amongst various sketches of animals, a superb cubist portrait representing two sailors.
The oldest and only manuscript of this poem still in private hands.
This document contains two poems or draft poems.
The poem, on the verso, is the declension of twenty-seven verses that develop the adventures of two sailors, verses that constitute the heart of the famous poem "Le Voyageur", first published in the journal Les Soirées de Paris (1912), then in Alcools (1913).
On the front side are six verses that seem… Leer más

NY : E.J. Hale & Son, 1878 Alexander Means was an inventor, physicist, poet and a past Emory College president at the original campus in Oxford GA. Many say he was the father of modern electricity. His famous light bulb experiment preceded Tesla and Edison by decades. This is a very rare first edition (1878). The book is in sound condition. Blue cloth cover intact as well as binding. Minor cloth fray on spine and damp stain on rear cover. What is most remarkable about this book is that it is inscribed by one of his former slaves after his freedom. The inscription reads " Susie , Accept this cluster of Poems by one of my old masters from your affecionate husband A.F.P Decatur Ga, Apr 1878. A most precious inscription to a valuable 19th C book.. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Good.
