Colour wood-engraved frontispiece and plates, signed "Leighton Bros.", with protective printed interleaves. Wood-engraved initial letters and printer's ornaments. Lacking one plate (11 of 12). Minute rubbing to cloth at head, heel and corners, as well as edges of spine, some light dust soil overall to cloth, a few minor spots of darker soil, some light foxing to endpapers, a few creased corners and spots of speckles or smudges to interior, plates have offset a faint tan to printed guards only.

Cover features image of the wild swans at center, phoenix rising at top, and dragons below w/included title sashes surrounding and borders filled w/flowers, butterflies, and stars.
