Includes 15 tipped in color plates and some black and white illustrations as well. An about very good copy in paper covered boards with a cloth spine with wear to the edges of the boards and some other light wear. Internally a clean copy. No dust jacket or slipcase.

New York: Oxford University Press, 1926. Copyright 1926, most likely first American edition. With 15 tipped on Art Nouveau color plates by Pogany and additional full page line drawings. Green cloth with gilt spine lettering, decorative endpapers, 10.25" tall, 196 pages, no dustjacket, possibly as issued. Light shelf soil and edge rubbing to the covers, good hinges, sound text block, clean pages with a 1928 gift notation, child's bookplate and name inside the front cover, child's name written on verso of front free endpaper. Plates are in very good condition, with the top edges of a few of the backing pages a little wavy (probably from the process used to tip on the plates), portions of three of the line drawings neatly colored in with pastel colored crayons, tiny tears to the edges of two leaves, chipping to the inner margin of one leaf that does not affect the text. . Hard Cover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Binding rather crudely updated, front board a bit warped and rear cover soiled with dampstain along spine, textblock rather brittle and very slightly toned, long closed tear along gutter edge of pp. 57/8 not approaching text; overall a Good or better copy, annotated on front free endpaper in contemporary green ink: "Isidora Newman / Hand colored by the Author." It should be noted that hand-colored illustrations by Newman are not unique to this copy.

An attractive copy with toning to pages, offsetting to endpapers, bit of discoloration to edges of cloth, dust jacket with flap corners trimmed, toned, foxed, large chip and long closed tear to head of spine, mild damp stain to lower spine.
