London: London, Printed By T. N. For John Martyn, at the Bel in St. Pauls Church-yard, 1678. Fine Binding. Very Good/No Jacket. Size 7.25" x 4.5", 462 pages. Red leather and gilt fine binding. The front and back covers have a gilt border and are decorated with an ornate floral gilt central panel with elaborate floral corner pieces. Five raised bands to the spine with intricate gilt detail in each compartment. With gilt page edges and marbled pastedowns and endpapers. There is a beautiful full-page woodcut frontispiece of angels at an altar in a chapel with a vaulted ceiling. Condition very good, a little rubbing to corners/cover edges, hinges cracked internally, frontispiece is detached but present, the internal condition is generally clean, virtually no foxing, a few finger marks to margins else clean and complete, the rear endpaper has the top 20% missing from the top and contains some old Latin ink handwriting. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall

[16], 436pp. Later (mid-nineteenth century) full morocco, raised bands, spine in six panels, author / title in gilt to second, remaining panels with gilt central diamond made up of four tulip heads, with volute corner pieces, covers with central panel design with volute internal corner pieces and floral external corner pieces, gilt roll to edges and inner dentelles, a.e.g. comb and curl marbled endpapers. Very minor rubbing to extremities, internally some light browning and spotting but generally fairly clean. Previous owners bookplate to front pastedown, with another previous owners name to head of title, engraved frontispiece. Binding is J[ohn] Clarke, with his stamp to reverse of front marbled endpaper, who was described by Ramsden as "one of the best and most prolific of the London binders of the period". Wing T422. Reprint. Full Morocco. Very Good. 8vo.
