Bernard Wall's greatest achievement is his eighty-five volume series called Following Abraham Lincoln. For eleven years he followed the footsteps of our great war President in his travels, making etchings - several hundred of them- of the Lincoln landmarks in America. These were etched on copper plates and printed on a hand press by the artist at Lime Rock. It was a big undertaking. Had it not been a labor of love, it is doubtful that Mr. Wall could have carried the work through to completion. . . .While visiting the Lincoln shrines Mr. Wall gathered together intimate glimpses from people in the various communities, that reveal the true character of Lincoln. Bernhardt Wall, 1943. Hardcover. Very Good Plus. Bernhardt Wall. Wall spent a number of years scouting out the places that had been important to Abraham Lincoln . From 1931 to 1942 he published a series of eighty-five volumes with eight to sixteen plates each presenting his etchings of Lincoln and the places in his life . He originally planned to print seventy - six sets of the etchings . However , it seems unlikely that he reached this number. In 1943 he put the etchings together in this volume --beautifully designed and printed . This is a unique interpretation of Lincoln and one that every collector of Lincolniana should have in the library . This isy good copy . The interior is clean , no marks except for the name of a previous owner on the first free endpaper . The hinges on the large volume are tight . All material is present , no etchings have been removed . The dust jacket shows light wear and toning to the edges but remains bright and clean . Dust jacket is protected with a mylar cover .

There is also a specially printed leaf laid in at the front, signed by Wall, that reads: "To Mr. & Mrs. Wm. H. Wiese, Friends and Lovers of the Arts." The Wieses subscribed to the original limited-edition portfolios of etchings that are collected in this book, and Wall apparently presented special copies like this in gratitude for their support.. No Place: Bernhardt Wall SCARCE. A set of 26 pencil SIGNED individual drypoint etchings plus the unsigned title page etching to Wall's book "Following Abraham Lincoln 1809-1865". With tissue guards for all but 3 of the etchings, all of the etchings are Fine, No Date, circa 1933-1942. On heavy laid paper, the sheets ranging in size from 8 1/2" x 9 3/4" to 10" x 12 1/2". Each etching with small "Lilly Library" stamp verso at corner, the whole set housed in a plain manila envelope marked "Dups.". A unique array of Wall's Lincoln etchings that could, if matted and framed, grace the walls of any Lincoln collection.. SIGNED BY ARTIST. Etchings . Fine.
