Joseph Henry (1797-1878), one of the founding fathers of electrical technology, was the first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. In this paper he responds to Faraday's confirmation of Henry's earlier discovery relating to electricity by describing further experiments he had carried out after moving to Princeton. Very scarce. In Very Good Condition: disbound from a larger volume; 1-cm. closed tear from gutter in each leaf; chip out along gutter of first leaf; clean and bright.

The plate was drawn by S. Rufus Mason and engraved by J. Yeager. Joseph Henry (1797-1878), one of the founding fathers of electrical technology, was the first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. In this paper he describes his construction in 1833 and 1834 of a large galvanic battery for the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University). Very scarce. Gilt cover title: "1928 Co-operative Printing Equipment Catalogue." Contains illustrated ads for printing-related businesses in the United States and a product directory. Front free endpaper contains a form for routing instructions for sending the catalog through a company. With: (1) a single page letter from the publisher, printed in green, with a detachable form to acknowledge receipt of the catalog; (2) a postcard for ordering; and (3) a correction for the capacity of the Simplex Paper Conditioner. In Fine Condition: clean and bright.

Pencil gift inscription by author at upper edge of front wrapper: "With best wishes RJHJ." The author, Romilly James Heald Jenkins (1907-1969), was the Koraes Professor of Modern Greek and Byzantine History, Language and Literature at Kings' College London from 1946 to 1960. Charles Boni started this strikingly designed series of modern works in paperback in 1929; in 1930, after 16 titles had been issued, the subscription requirement was dropped and the series was renamed Bonibooks, published by Albert and Charles Boni. Disbound from a collection of pamphlets owned by French homeopath Dr. Charles Ravel (1822-1887). The author, Julien Joseph Virey (1775-1846), was a French pharmacist and is credited with establishing the field of chronobiology. Bernard Germain Étienne de La Ville-sur-Illon, comte de Lacépède (1756-1825), was a French naturalist who worked with Buffon on his Histoire Naturelle and served in the French legislature. In Very Good Condition: foxed; "94" written on title page and Comte de Lacépède is underlined, both in ink; otherwise, clean. Scarce.
