Liberty Hyde Bailey (1858 – 1954) was an American horticulturist and reformer of rural life. He was cofounder of the American Society for Horticultural Science and was instrumental in starting agricultural extension services, the 4-H movement, and the nature study movement. Front hinge starting to break; binding is shaken. Caloric is a brand of kitchen appliance dating back to 1903 and originated as the Klein Stove Company in the late 1800's. The Janesville Caloric Company factory manufactured a "fireless cook stove" a precursor to the modern day slow cookers. In the 1960's CBS T.V. program, The Dick Van Dyke Show, a Caloric Ultramatic Wall Oven was featured. Sara Bard Field (1882-1974) was an American poet, suffragist, fre love advocate and Christian socialist. She worked successfully in Oregon and Nevada for the women's suffrage movement. She drove from California to Washington D.C. to present Woodrow Wilson with a petition containing a reported 500,000 signatures demanding a federal suffrage amendment. She was known as a skilled orator and became a poet later in her career, marrying her long-time partner and mentor, poet and lawyer Charles Erskine Scott Wood.; 8vo .

Her European and American Cuisine was so popluar it sold quickly requiring additional editions. Rare as a First Edition. In Poor-Fair conditon only with intact text block. Green cloth heavily worn on all extremities; front and back hinges broken. The text block is tightly bound. There are two penciled recipes on the last blank page and penciled 'x' marking recipes throughout. The foredge is heavily worn with chips and closed tears; page 183-4 is missing the top corner including text. Endpages laid in. ; 8vo .
