A scarce early Modern Library printing from the 1930's with flexibinding and the first with illustrated jacket by Richard A. Loederer. Complete in one volume. A very nice copy in red cloth and gilt to type and design motif. Top page ends tinted red with faint moisture stain to tops of about last 100 pages. Light fading to top of spine. Price sticker to front pastedown. Clean with tight binding and very little wear, woud be close to fine without small moisture stain. In scarce jacket that mostlyhas chipping at corners and spine ends, but some micro chipping/flaking and a few short tears to panel edges. Crease to front panel. Tanning mostly to spine and flap edges and split most of the way up rear spine crease that is still holding. 225 Books listed in series on inside of jacket. Modern Library #37.

The First US Printing of this translation direct into English with date of first printing on title page, 'Printed in England' on copyright page and only four titles listed. In grey cloth with gilt to top page ends that has dulled. Dinged corners frayed at bottom. Shallow strip to top of spine mostly gone and a few spots of fraying to bottom. Tanning and soiling/marks to spine. Interior surprisingly clean with mild tanning and solid binding.

The Illustrated Modern Library Edition in black paper covered boards and red spine cloth with gilt and black to type and illustration. Top page ends tinted red. Some wear to corners, smudges to boards and fading/pigment loss to spine with some stains towards bottom. Paper at hinges starting to split, but still solid. In scarce slipcase with tipped on paper label. Small split to one of top corners of opening with some paper loss and bump with small splits to edge of one board of opening. Edgewear and rubbing at corners - Good.

Vertical creasing to spine and some loss to pigment of type. Some spots/marks to boards as well as page ends, especially front. Front hinge splitting a little at front page ends, though binding still solid. In unclipped jacket ($22.50)with some edge wear and creasing, chipping to top and bottom of front spine edge. Some lamintaion separation and micro chips to top of rear panel.

A lovely set of four volumes in two that likely published after the four volume first authorized American edition in olive cloth by the same publisher. In blue cloth and bright gilt. A little tanning to top and front page ends with a light stain/smudge to top page ends of first volume. A few tiny spots of wear to spine ends and corners, otherwise few marks. Some foxing to endpapers, otherwise clean interior, sharp corners and tight bindings.

Letter A to first page and Ballantyne Printer's slug to last page. In grey cloth with gilt to type and top page ends which have a little pigment loss to gold. First Edition stated of Nabokov's first novel to be published in the US which he retranslated himself after being dissatisfied with the first translation published in England under the title Camera Obscura in 1932. In apparent first state binding of green cloth with black title panel to spine with gilt to type and design motif. A few small marks to front board and some fading to spine. Deckle edge with uneven tears to front edges of several pages towards rear where they seemed to have been uncut when purchased. A few small marks to top page ends. Binding solid and interior clean. In brand new high quality facsimile jacket.

A beautiful copy in blue cloth with gilt to spine(Somewhat dulled) and top page ends. Very minimal wear at corners and spine ends and a few small spots to boards. Crease to rear pastedown from printer and small bookstore sticker removal. A few edge tears/chips to a few pages which apparently had to still be cut. Very clean interior with solid binding. A very nice copy for the age.
