Learn only how the ignorant may learn; how the innocent may be preserved; the vicious reclaimed...collect whatever of talent, or erudition, or eloquence, or authority, the broad land can supply, and go forth, AND TEACH THE PEOPLE...".
The speech is contained in a 32 page booklet, without covers, that measures approximately 5 ½ x 8 ½ inches. The pages are tanned, with occasional mild foxing, but the text is clear and easily read. The overall condition of the item is good/very good.

It was published in 1892 by The Larwood & Day Co., Cleveland, Ohio and printed by Burl & Hubbell, Printers..The Publisher's fore-note reads "As the author of the following sketches has enviable place among orators and writers, we believe the collection of his public addresses and writings will furnish genuine pleasure to a large circle of readers. In making the selections, we have carefully abstained from including any of Mr. Parson's political speeches, although they would fill a large and interesting volume; because they are necessarily of partisan character. Descripción:
It was 1868, the first presidential election year after the end of the Civil War, and the Republican Gen. Ulysses S. Grant was being opposed by the Democrat Horatio Seymour for the presidency. This Speech of Hon. Edwards Pierrepont, documented in 20 pages of text, presents his arguments in favor of Grant. He does this by adopting the approach that Grant, as the General who defeated the South's Gen. Lee to end the war, was the God of Battles who ended the bloody fight, and that Grant was the best man to be the Prince of Peace, and achieve a far more glorious victory. The speech then proceeds to go through all the actions, arguments, positions and beliefs proposed by the defeated South to win the Peace, including seizure of the Government, restoration of slavery, and, by using diplomatic arts, win what was lost by the war, i.e. restore the Lost Cause!
The speech is contained in a booklet that measures approximately 5.5 inches wide by 9 inches tall. The booklet, which originally had 22 pages, is without… Leer más

Descripción:
In the 1890s a major financial concern of the nations was whether gold or silver should be the basis of the country's currency, and what the benefits or detriments each might have on the country's economic and financial health. In or around 1895 J. Park Alexander gave a speech before The Akron Mckinley Club, expressing his opinions on the financial questions. Although a copy of that speech is not included in this offering, it is apparent that the speech delved so deeply in financial information that Mr. Alexander had to publish this paper, Statistics Used By Hon. J. Park Alexander in a Speech Delivered Before The Akron McKinley Club, Akron, Ohio, in order for his audience to intelligently evalute his speech.
The Statistics are presented in a booklet, without covers, that measures approximately 6 x 9 inches and contains 28 numbered pages. The pages are tanned, with text that is clear and easily read. The overall condition of the booklet is good.

It was 1900, a Presidential Election year, and Republican President McKinley was seeking a second term against the Democratic Candidate William Jennings Bryan. The Republican Party, in their attempts to gather voters, distributed papers to selected groups of potential voters showing them how much better their lives would be under a Republican administration. This paper, "The Man with the Hoe" Conditions of American Farmers Contrasted under Democratic and Republican Administrations, was aimed at farmers, and hoped to catch their attention by the sub-title that spoke words that predicted a good future.
The booklet, which measures approximately 5.75 inches wide by 9 inches tall, contains 8 pages of text and charts describing the improvements in the financial health of the farmers during McKInley's first term, and comparing it to the poorer conditions under earlier Democratic administrations.
The booklet is staple-bound. The pages are tanned and somewhat brittle along the edges. The text and charts are… Leer más
