Swedish language. The exhibition of contemporary French art in Finland was organized by the French Association for Artistic Action (AFAA). It run at the Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki from 6 to 30 March 1927. The exhibition of 114 works by 33 contemporary artists introduced the latest art trends and was of great importance for the development of modern art in Finland. By this time cubism from the extreme analytical stage with focus on form, entered its synthetic phase with emphasis on subject matter. So the show was not so cubist in orientation as the one in neighbour Stockholm in 1920. The displayed items included artworks by the such prominent French modernist painters as: Pablo Picasso and Jean Metzinger, who presented the new forms of cubism, expressionists Marcel Gromaire, Henry de Waroquier, Maurice Vlaminck, self-taught painter of cityscapes Maurice Utrillo, post-impressionists Paul Signac, Pierre Bonnard, Maximilien Luce, Albert Marquet and Charles Guerin, Dunoyer de Segonzac, who in contrast… Leer más

Near fine condition: cover shows slight bottom- and fore-edge fraying, multiple soft creases across cover corners; internally almost perfect with only few occasional foxing spots.
The first Latvian edition of the Oppenheim's satirical novel "The Inevitable Millionaire's" firstly published in 1919 by A. L. Burt Company. In this funny satire, Oppenheim offers us an argument that has been used in several movies: Two brothers come into a large inheritance with a pre-condition that they need to spend a big amount of money within a month. This novel resembles a great Wodehousian comedy.
Edward Phillips Oppenheim (1866 – 1946) was an English novelist, a prolific writer of best-selling genre fiction, featuring glamorous characters, international intrigue and fast action. Notably easy to read, they were viewed as popular entertainments. [2]
Avant-garde book cover design by Pauls Šterns (1907 - 1979), well-known Latvian graphic artist and wood engraver.

Good condition: mostly uncut book which bottom edge was exposed to moisture, cover shows minor edge fraying, damaged ends of the spine.
An overview of the life and work of the most influential American poet Walt Whitman (1819-1892) with examples of his poetry. Whitman is considered the father of free-verse and predecessor of futurism, whom Semper puts in line with other distinguished futurists: "Today, poetry of technology and machines is no surprise to anyone. We often come across it: E. Verhaeren, F.-T. Marinetti, V. Majakovski, J. Romains, G. Duhamel and many others have brought to poetry the smoke of factories and the noise and roar of engines, and made these modern topics acceptable." (p. 15) The second part of the book includes a selection of Whitman's poems translated to Estonian by Semper.
Book's avant-garde cover design by Ado Vabbe (1892-1961), the first Estonian avant-garde artist and the most important innovator in Estonian art, whose early works were clearly connected to Futurism.… Leer más

Golubaya Roza (the Blue Rose) was a Symbolist artist association organized in Moscow in 1907. Members included the ideologist of the group Pavel Kuznetsov, Anatolii Arapov, Petr Bromirsky, V. Drittenpreis, Nikolai Feofilaktov, Artur Fonvizen, Nikolai Krymov, Ivan Knabe, Nikolai Milioti, Vasilii Milioti, Aleksandr Matveev, Nikolai Ryabushinsky, Nikolai Sapunov, Martiros Saryan, Serge Sudeikin and Petr Utkin. Their style was inspired by the Russian Impressionist Viktor Borisov-Musatov. The only exhibition of the group was opened on March 18, 1907 in Moscow, and had become a legendary cultural event. Very good condition; cover shows slight soiling, fore-edge fraying and some creasing along fore-edge, owner's signature to the upper edge of the front wrapper, closed vertical tear (about 8 cm. length) from the bottom edge of the back wrapper and back sheet. Current research work by Russian symbolist and modernist writer, poet, philosopher and scholar Grigory Rachinsky (1859-1939) traces the history of Japanese poetry from the ancient ritual songs until the lyric court poetry, five-line tanka and three-line haiku. Also consedered Japanese light novel monogatari and Japanese drama. The work is extensively supplemented with translations of five-line, three-line and nagauta "long-song" poems. Works by the German translators Karl Rathgen and Otto Hauser, served as sources for the current research. Rachinsky, like many others, who used to devote themselves to the research of Japanese culture at the beginning of the 20th century, tends to draw analogies with European culture in his work. Near fine condition; cover shows some foxing (extensive on the back wrapper) and creasing across corners; internally foxing throughout the book (mainly on the outer corners).
The first Latvian translation of Sinclair's novel "The Metropolis" (Latvian edition) with striking avant-garde cover design by S. Vidbergs.
Set in the exciting scene of New York city in 1907, the Metropolis depicts a duality by showing both the glamourous and obscene lifestyle of the rich and the desolate, difficult life of the poor and working class. This contrast describes the cruelty of the rich, often making the poor victims to their greed and selfishness.
Upton Sinclair (1878-1968) was a famous American writer. Though he wrote across many genres, Sinclair's most famous works were novels of social protest and political tracts.
