These includes 4 movable plates with jointed characters operated by tabs. These "animations" were created by A. V. Warren. This book is in remarkably well preserved condition. There is an inscription to Paul Rohe (my father) from his elementary school teacher in Winslow, AZ dated Xmas 1933 in pencil on the front fixed endpaper. There is some minor chipping to the edges of the paper of the paste-on front cover, a minor bump to one corner, with light soiling and fingerprints to the rear board and a few pages, otherwise very clean & bright. In addition to several monumental sculptures representing the poet, Ciuca created a series of paintings named The Divine Comedy in 600 Images. This catalogue is from the 1976 series of 220 of Ciuca's paintings and sculptures that were dedicated entirely to Dante Alighieri and were on exhibit for four months at the tomb of the poet at Chiostro Di Dante in Revenna. The Kairyudo (Tokyo), 1934. First Edition in English. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Translated from the Japanese by Kiichi Nishi. Playwright and novelist Kikuchi (1888-1948) began his career in the shadow of Akutagawa and other literary friends, and went on to found the publishing company Bungeishunju, the monthly magazine of the same name, the Japan Writer's Association and both the Akutagawa and Naoki Prize for popular literature. He was also the head of Daiei Motion Picture Company, which produced such masterpieces such as Akira Kurosawa's Rashomon and Kenji Mizoguchi's Ugetsu (currently Kadokawa Pictures). Kikuchi was a major literary figure and interpreter of Western drama in his day, but his support for the Imperial Japanese war effort led to his marginalization in the postwar period.
