La Florida Antiquarian/Antique Hand-Colored Map displaying Southeast North America, what is now the South-Eastern United States with parts of what are now the states of Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas and Mexico. Map 6 x 9 inches on rag paper (aka laid paper) sheet 8.25 x 10.3 inches. This map is regarded as the first printed map to feature the Florida peninsula when the territory was owned by the Spanish Empire areas of the New World. It first appeared in the 1584 edition of "Theatrum orbis terrarum". (The first edition of "Theatrum" was 1570 but did not include this map.)This engraved map is based on a drawing by Geronimo de Chiaves (1523-1574), the royal cosmographer and cartographer to Philip II, king of Spain. and appeared in 'Theatrum orbis terrarum' published by Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) in 1584. Who Goes There? Seven Tales of Science Fiction by John W. Campbell Hardcover First Edition - First Printing Shasta Press 1948. $3.00 cover price intact. Cover art by Hannes Bok including the back which is unusual for genre fiction prior to circa 1960, regarded as one of Bok's best efforts.
Fine in Fine- Dust Jacket. A fine book with only the typical age-toning and a bookseller sticker on the back board which was common with books being sold prior to circa 1960. Clothed in one of the best original jackets I've seen for this book. NO tears and NO chips. Very tiny nicks to the corners, with just a hint of edge-wear here and there, else a spectacular copy of one of the classics of science fiction.
"Who Goes There?", the title story of this collection, was originally published in 1938 in Astounding Science Fiction under the pen name Don A. Stuart. The title story is its first appearance in hardcover.

The Eye of the World (Book One of the Wheel of Time) by Robert Jordan. Hardcover First UK Edition - First Printing Orbit 1991 (true first edition TOR/Tom Doherty & Assoc. US 1990). Fine- in Fine- Dust Jacket. A near perfect copy with typical aging to the text-block with a hint it was probably read once, very slight aging to the boards, straight corners, slight hint of shelf-wear, tiny pinpricks to the upper and lower front corners of the jacket. Still a superior copy. NOTE: The pictures are of the actual item for sale, not stock photos. All books in jackets come with dust jacket covers. NOTE on edition: The true first edition/first printing was published by TOR/Tom Doherty & Assoc. in only about 2000 trade hardcover copies, the balance in trade paperbacks with many of the former going to libraries. Nine Princes in Amber by Roger Zelazny (author of Lord of Light) Hardcover Second Edition - First Printing Boston: Gregg Press, 1979. Wrap-around dust jacket artwork, a frontispiece plate, and three additional b&w plates by Freff. The only edition of the first Chronicles of Amber illustrated. (true first edition Doubleday, 1970) Black boards in a two color blue and black wrap-around artwork jacket. Copyright page with 1970 and states "First Printing, 1979" Fine in Fine- Dust Jacket with just a bit of rubbing at corners and extremities, but still an exceptionally nice copy. In my opinion the best edition of this book, and more difficult to find than the Doubleday first edition. Probably issued in only 500 to 1000 copies at most.

Book itself is just about fine with no flaws, only natural aging. The pages are very crisp and clean, somewhat higher-quality paper than typical of the period.

The Shadow of the Torturer The Book of the New Sun Volume I by Gene Wolfe Hardcover First UK Edition - First Printing London: Sidgwick & Jackson UK, 1981 £7.95 (published in the US by Timescape/Simon & Schuster in 1980) Features wonderful dust jacket wrap-around artwork with Severian in cape with his sword Terminus Est in a dark futuristic landscape by Bruce Pennington. Still the best jacket artwork of any edition in my opinion. (Reportedly printed in 4000 hardcover copies of the Timescape Edition, probably no more than 1500 to 2000 copies in the UK.)
Nearly Fine in Fine- Dust Jacket, a beautiful copy with a couple of slight imperfections. Mainly, there is some stamping at the top of the page with the poem before the main text, really no big deal, although there are NO other signs this copy being an x-library. End-papers are clean and NO stamping on the edges of the text-block. There is a slight artificial stain on the right-hand edge of the text-block. Army and Navy Series: Brave Old Salt or Life on the Quarter Deck A Story of the Great Rebellion by Oliver Optic Hardcover Edition Boston: Lee and Shepard Publishers, 1894 or circa 1894-1910. The first edition probably appeared in 1866. Oliver Optic wrote many novels set during the American Civil War, often called "The Blue and the Gray" series.

Issue Points: Red pictorial boards, original copyright 1866 and renewed 1894 as per the copyright page. Clothed in a tan pictorial dust jacket which replicates the boards, without a price, blurb or text on the flaps, which probably means it was issued prior to no later than 1910 possibly pre-1900. (Blurbs on dust jackets began to appear circa 1906-7.)

Condition: Very Good+ in Very Good+ Dust Jacket. Probably scarce in original dust jacket. Book itself is relatively clean, firm binding with text-block firm to the boards (NO hinge splitting at all), boards clean, typical age-toning to the pages. The Great Hunt (Book Two of the Wheel of Time) by Robert Jordan Hardcover First UK Edition - First Printing Orbit/Macdonald UK 1991. £13.99 cover price. Features alternative dust jacket artwork by Melvin Grant (different from the US edition) and also a large illustration of the Dark One on the end-papers. Near Fine+ in Near Fine Dust Jacket. An outwardly nice nice copy, some shelf-wear and it shows slight signs of having been read but not too extensive. Some natural aging to the text-block bit very little toning as is common with UK editions. A bit of shelf-wear to the top of the spine and at the corners. The dust jacket is near fine+/fine-, and completely intact. It would have been near perfect save some staining to the upper back (not seen on the front), probably from impressing from the upper spine, and nicks to corners, and a tiny slit to the bottom front, else still a great copy, better than it sounds, and the only copy available as of this writing.

Numerous in-text woodcut illustrations of Roman Catholic ceremonies and Holy Orders and one full-page (frontispiece). Possibly the best copy available with an outstanding original dust jacket. Book itself is clean, boards clean, pages nice, slight shelf-wear and aging, to be expected. Dust Jacket is complete, NO Major tears and NO major chips, just slight fraying to top and bottom of the spine, and slight nicking to corners, and a tiny circular rubbing to the front bottom edge, else just about as nice as you could ask for! (Most buyers in the 1920's and 1930's threw away the dust jacket off of books, making most dust jackets produced prior to World War II very scarce.) Simultaneously released in the UK by Gollancz the same year.

Fine- in Near Fine unrestored Dust Jacket. A really nice exceptional copy in dust jacket. The book itself is just about fine with very clean pages. Dust jacket is quite clean and bright at the front, and does NOT have any major tears. Typical edge-wear top and bottom spine and rubbing and nicks to the same and at the corners, and some typical soiling to the back of the dust jacket. Overall a very clean and presentable first edition copy of one of the half-dozen major works of Steinbeck.
