The pamphlets in the collection are bound together in strong modern red cloth buckram (evidently rebound from a previous contemporary binding). The pamphlets are in remarkably fresh condition, and many items have the contemporary dates of acquisition noted in a neat hand, and a few have interesting marginal comments in the same hand. FINE MAPS & PLATES OF THE RIO DE LA PLATE REGION
Azara (1746-1821), a military officer and naturalist, was appointed to a delegation to settle the boundary dispute between Spain and Portugal in the Rio de la Plata region and spent the twenty years 1781 to 1801 in the region, during which time he studied and documented the area's geography, animals and native peoples. He published his Voyage in Madrid in Spanish after his return to Europe with 4 octavo volumes of text and this accompanying folio atlas volume. The atlas includes folding maps of South America, Paraguay and the Province of Buenos Aires, the Government of Buenos Aires, the Government of Paraguay and part of Chaco, and the Province of Chiquitos and Government of Matagroso and of Cuyaba; eight city plans and views, including a double-page plan and view of Buenos Aires, seven plates depicting animals, and four plates depicting birds.

AN ASTONISHING CACHE OF LETTERS ON A FAMILY'S CLAIM TO A SCOTTISH PEERAGEcirca 300 manuscript letters in various hands (most clearly legible) and on various sizes of notepaper and many with the postal address and date, very good.Charles Ross Fleming (1711 ca. - 1769), M. D., eldest son of Rev. James Fleming of Kilkenny, Chaplain to the Lord Lieutenant in 1712, was educated at Trinity College Dublin. In 1743 he married Ann Hamilton of Killyleagh, Co. Down, in St. Werburgh's Church, Dublin. His son Hamilton Fleming had an only child, a daughter Harriet, who married William Gyll of Wraysbury House, Buckinghamshire. Charles Ross claimed to be a great grandson of Alexander Fleming, 4th. son of the 1st. Earl of Wigton and in 1747, when the 7th. Earl died without male issue, Charles Ross assumed the title of 8th. ESTC t146384King (Antrim 1650 - 1729), philosopher, churchman, and historian, the son of poor Presbyterian immigrants, was educated at T.C.D. where he joined the Anglican Church. He was ordained in 1674 and became Bishop of Derry and, from 1703, Archbishop of Dublin. He was an early member of the Dublin Philosophical Society founded by William Molyneux. He wrote the highly influential State of the Protestants of Ireland under the late King James's Government in 1691 to justify the change in allegiance to King William, but he opposed most of the penal laws and condemned the incomplete ratification of the Treaty of Limerick. He opposed the growth of English influence in Irish affairs in such as Church patronage and the economy (he supported Swift against Wood's halfpence).
