This copy includes "The Minutes of the Convention [First Session]" and "The Minutes of the Grand Committee of the Whole Convention." Larger format (quarto) HC/DJ. 1st edition. Snugly bound and very neat in original pictorial dust jacket. Bound in glazed pictorial paper covered boards with matching pictorial design to the jacket printed on thin paper stock - a notriously fragile dust jacket. Just superficial shelf rubbing to boards at corner tips and mild shelf tap top front corners. Small area of toning to binding material at crown where small chips from the jacket exposed the binding. Jacket is moderately toned to spine and adjacent areas of the sides as well as the front edge. Jacket is rubbed and worn with short closed tears and shallow chips at edges. Content bright and fresh, illustrated throughout with b&w drawings by Edward Kemble. Lovely copy in the very infrquently seen original dust jacket. Book is VG++ to NF in VG- jacket .

Three Emblem books from the press of Plantin, bound together in one volume. 16mo in 8s. 389; 159; 352 pp. Full vellum binding with yapped edges. All three books collated, complete including blanks. Though all are later printings, in the smaller 16mo format by the Plantin publishing house, they are remarkably well preserved, complete and clean. Some superficial damp lines and halos observed here and there. Woodcuts clean and generally sharp, though here and there a muddy impression among the hundreds of emblems. Vellum fold -ins at front edge are sharp and curling out with consequent mild furring to front and rear endpages at front edge. Prior owner's modern calf skin tie secures the volume. Folio 13" - 23" tall; Very large format, square folio in publisher's heavy grey linen with paper title label to cover board and title lettering in white to spine. Very warmly inscribed to the front endpage; "Bernard, an interior chap / Love / Walker / 9/1/1966." Splendid copy with sharp edges and crisp title lettering at spine; title label unblemished and uniformly bright. Beautifully printed (photogravure process) photographs; each has an unmarred heavy onion skin tissue guard. Publisher's portrait (promotional? ) of Evans laid in at front along with a few pages of obituary clippings and biographical material. Only a hint of shelf rub to the lower front tips and tail. The Union collection features an early printing of Grey's Elegy in a Country Church-Yard along with work by Shipley, Lowth, Thomas Wharton, Smallet. Two volumes, complete, of Johnson's important anthology of African American religious and folk songs in the spiritual tradition. 187; 189 pp. The first volume in the 4th printing and the second volume in the 1st printing. Each volume signed by both James Weldon Johnson and his brother, J. Rosmaond - who arranged the song's musical notation. Snugly bound and very neat in brown and blue cloth respectively, with a matching design of lettering in dark brown and in size. Mild crimping to cloth at spine ends and expected mild toning to page stock. Generally quite bright and neat. The first volume signed without inscription by both authors; offset shadow toning to the endpages where a pair of period reviews had been laid in. Reviews preserved in an archival envelope. Cloth a bit sunned and faded at spine and to a thin swath of cloth along the front and bottom edges of the plain cloth board fronting the book, but not the title lettered board now serving as the rear. Gilt at spine generally solid and still bright with mild rubbing to the T in This and the first A in Paradise. Cloth a little crimped and pulled at spine ends. Corners lightly shelf bumped and a little softened. It appears the front free endpage has been glued down to the front pastedown, possibly to reinforce a partial split in the hinge or to obscure prior ownership, unknown. Superficial shelf soiling to the rear board. Solid and attractive copy of the 1st printing, published initially by Scribner's in 3000 copies. VG .

"First American edition from the fourth and greatly improved London edition". There were at least two ealier American printings in 1847 by Wagner & McGuigan and by Thomas, Cowperthwait. Bound in a later 19th century full calf with red morocco title label brightly lettered in gilt to spine. Soundly bound with contents complete, including the subscriber's lists at front and the single page ad at rear. Including the tissue garded frontis there are 21 full page lithograhped plates, most with mechanical overlays and hand colored with tissue guards. At leat one plate has a tissue guard integral between the colored overlay leaves. Table I.
