London: Nathaniel Brook, 1657. Hardcover. Good. This work of the famous herbalist Nicholas Culpeper 1601-54 was first published in 1655. This is believed to be the 1657. This dating is substantiated by the unique pagination of vol 3. pages between 15-27 are numbered 20,21, 18,19,24,25,22,23,28,29,26. This corresponds to the copy held in the British Library ESTC system no 006090316. Comprising three works bound together. including the treatise on Headaches/ a synopsis of the chiefest compositions in use now with Galenists/select aphorismes(this latter is the only one with a publication date of 1656). There is a short combined index for the three volumes and a list of other books published by Nathanial Brook. 48,, 73,144 pp. It lacks the full title page and any engraved frontispiece. Limited to 1000 trade copies, of which this is numbered 283. In quarto original gilt stamped mauve cloth boards. Bumping to edges and corners. Contents complete, tidy and still tightly bound. Pages age coloured. 1899

London: Collins, 1968. Hardcover. Very good. Owners inscription.. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. A rare first impression of the first edition hardback of this well-loved classic children's book. There is an ink pen inscription to the front endpapers dated November 1968. Cream boards illustrated in full colour front and back by Judith Kerr and Kerr's wonderful illustrations feature throughout the book. The spine and corners are slightly bumped and the the binding is partially loose between two of the pages. Slight partial cracking on hinge, between front cover and end paper. No dust jacket. Basel: Robert Winter, 1539. Hardcover. Good. Text in Greek. All prefaces introductions indices in latin. Leather binding possibly a replacement. End-papers definitely more recent than pages. 551pp divided into 20 books, partly paginated preface Iano Sollare. contents ( rerum quae in his viginiti geoponicon). Modern leather label on spine and small golden stamp. A rare edition of the famous Geoponika, a Byzantine compilation on agriculture which was attributed to Emperor Constantinus VII Porphyrogenitus. Preface has small woodcut illuminated V at start. End piece is large woodcut. In very good condition. Clearly showing signs of its age externally, the cover is scuffed and the tooling is faded there are several apparent worm holes. The binding is sound and there is only one inked comment (Illegible)on the frontispiece 1539

London: Edward Arnold, 1924. A first edition signed by the author copy of what is considered to be one of the greatest novels of all time. Previous owners name inscribed, in faded ink, on the front end paper. Bookplate on front paste down front end paper. Pages are age tanned and some very, very mild spotting to a few of the pages. Shelf wear to top and bottom of spine. Overall, a lovely original copy, in good condition for its age. 1924

First printing of the First Edition. Brown calf boards with gilt border and raised bands and gilt decoration on spine. Title labels all present. Wear to corners. Marbling to page edges and endpapers. Bindings are tight. Scattered foxing throughout. Some wear and tear on some covers, but overall a very fine set. Attractive book plate on front paste down and a previous owner's signature dated 1870. Soft cover. Good. This is a slightly tatty folder containing artistic nudes by the famous Americain photographer Albert Allen. It is a portfolio containing 9 pages with four studies on each page two of which have been subdivided. Two pages with three images. There are a further three pages with two images one of which has been cut. Then finally two full pages. Apart from some of them being detached the photographs themseleves are in good condition. Their previous owner was said to have died of an Art Attack! Good

Spine has wear to base and a small gash mark (see photo). Edges are slightly bumped. Gilt top page edges. Pages are uncut. Numerous illustrations, all present. Some tissue guards are loose. This is number 412 of limited signed edition of this colossal work-an account of the distribution, habits, and natural history of the sporting mammals with personal hunting experiences, 25 separate contributors, 15 hand-coloured plates and numerous photogravure illustrations. it is bound in green cloth with gilt lettering. the spine is a bit worn top and bottom and the shoulders are worn with small loss and the first few pages are detached. Binding is cocked.The rear hinge is completely detached. There are tears and small loss to contents page. Other page edges are slightly torn. Endpapers are worn and stained and the rear has loss. Edges are bumped and the boards are lightly stained. Yellow endpapers. Pages are age tanned with occasional slight foxing. Beautiful coloured engravings, which are in remarkably good condition. 4to A Natural History of the Nests and Eggs of British Birds (3 volume set): Water damage to Volume 2 and rear of volume 3. London: F and C Rivington, 1804. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo.. Samuel Johnson's edition of nine volumes. Tan calf boards with gilt lines. Gilt bands to spines and gilt lettering and numbering. Lettering has faded. Edges are bumped and there is fading and scratching to boards but the bindings are uniformly tight and well presented. Internally the endpapers are of grey paper with the slight marks of a removed bookplate on Vol I and IX. Internally the pages are age-tanned but generally clean and bright. Dr Johnson's preface is included in Vol 1 together with an historical acount of The English Stage by Mr Malone. Engravings by Fuseli face the frontispiece of each play, Vol II has light foxing and slight rippling. Vol III has cream endpapers and the front hinge is just beginning to crack. There is scattered foxing to this volume and some pencilled annotations. Vol VI has slight staining and the occasional pencilled line. Vol VIII has scattered foxing. Olive green cloth boards with elaborate gilt decoration and lettering to front and spine. Some fraying to edges and some spines are faded. Gilt top page edges. Delightful illustrations by Byam Shaw. Edinburgh: Alexander Kincaid, 1758. Hardcover. Very Good. 24mo - over 5" - 5¾" tall. Although the title on the frontispiece states that it is a complete Bible, this is volume one and it ends with the Psalms and then Proverbs. It was common to bind the Bible in two volumes. The final books of the Old Testament and the New Testament would have been included in the second volume. A fine example of the King James Bible, this is a small book with elaborate brown leather and gilt tooled binding, raised bands to spine. There is wear on the spine, especially along the hinges and the corners are scuffed. The pages are gilt edged and the print is very small. Pastedowns are a pale green and white pattern with traces of gilding remaining and are an attractive example of Dutch gilt papers of the time, originating from the Low Countries. Shanghai: Tien Shi Chai, 1879. Soft cover. Very Good. A panorama of Peking during the celebrations of the 6oth Anniversary of Kang He's birthday. This panorama was originally created in 1721, and is reproduced here on silk with purple silk covers with gold text, by a lithographic technique. It is in very good condition, although the printers appear to have sacrificed the chinese characters in the binding process, the prints themselves are in excellent condition and render a fascinating view of Chinese life in the 18th Cent.; 32mo - over 4 - 5" tall Near Fine dc 1879

London: Robert barker, 1630. Very early complete King James Bible containing Psalms, genealogical tables,both Old and New Testaments. In poor condition. Leather binding still in one piece.-although spine cracking.Appears to be missing Frontispiece- starts with "An act of the Uniformitie" which also slightly torn at corners. Inside cover extensively inscribed by a variety of hands. spine also broken in places-although all internal pages appear to be present. it also ends on page 86 of the psalms at the back-suggesting pages missing there also. 1630

Wonderful hand coloured engravings by well known artists such as William Etty, John Martin and Benjamin Haydon. Previous owners's dedication dated 1875 on the flyleaf. Naples: il Simone, 1752. Hardcover. Good.. 8vo.. In contemporary vellum binding, which is worn and frayed, especially to base of spine which is splitting. Handwritten title to spine. Age darkened. Pages are age tanned with occasional foxing. Binding is tight. The stamp of Heatherley School on the front endpapers, and M+M in a box on both sides. No other library markings. Previous owner's signature on fep. Text in Italian and Greek. 1752

Amstelodami, 1776. Good. First edition of this seminal work by the polymath founder of Swedenborgism religion. In latin,quarto, 629 pp. No illustrations In absolutely plain leather look binding. The spine is scuffed leather with a torn leather label. The covers would appear to be stained board to match. The front end paper is torn across the top. Otherwise no markings or inscriptions and condition of text is very good. 1776
