Numerous black and white photos, including the American League and World Champion Boston Braves and National League Champion Philadelphia Athletics. Book includes detailed information on team ownership, team rosters, individual player data, and minor league info and photos. Joints intact and strong, a rarity for a paperback of this age. Candidates of the Third Officers' Training School, Camp Sherman, Ohio, Jan. 5 --April 19, 1918. Softcover. Condition: Very Good+ No dust jacket. 93 pp of crisp, white leaves with profuse b/w drawn illustrations throughout. No foxing. Prior owner attribution dated April 27, 1918 on front free endpaper from Glenn M. Hood to Mary Jane Nixon. (Glenn M. Hood is listed on page 92 among the roster of Clerical Force of Company K, 331st Infantry along with his picture on page 14.) This book is a very rare compilation of a training manual that prepared U. S. Army officers to go to WW I. It contains the Roster of the Third Officers Training School present at Camp Sherman near Chillicothe, Ohio. The book also contains b/w group photographs of the training officers and each of the Infantry and Battery training classes. The back cover has a small water stain near the bottom edge at the spine and the bottom outer edge corner is missing. Otherwise, in remarkable condition for its age and construction.

"The first notice of the organization of the First Ohio Cavalry, is found in a report of the Adjutant General of Ohio for 1861. In his report for that year, the Adjutant General states that, 'on July 21, 1861, after earnest solicitation, authority was received from Washington for raising eight companies, or a regiment of cavalry, directly for the service of the Federal Government. It was determined that this regiment should be one of maximum size, to consist of twelve companies. This was raised without difficulty, and rendezvoused at Camp Chase, in July, August and September'." Slight foxing typical of age. One steel engraved plate at page 72. Outer cover red cloth with medallion of publisher's initials on front and rear covers. Gold gilt on spine is mostly worn. The story was first published in England in 1867. The original 1867 version lists the other children's stories mentioned on the title page and identifies the author as Edis Serle. No other copy of this 1871 Philadelphia version has been found on the internet.

The Baltimore City College is the third oldest college preparatory high school in the US. In 1924, the school did not enroll girls. Published continuously since 1896, The Green Bag is one of the oldest high school or college yearbooks in America. Few copies of The Green Bag from this era are known to exist. Unable to find another copy on the internet for comparison.
