Beautiful 8 volume set containing the following titles: The Life of Edward Earl of Clarendon, Lord High Chancellor of England, and Chancellor of the University of Oxford, in which is included a continuation of his history of the Grand Rebellion written by himself - Volumes 1 & 2, The History of the Rebellion - Volume I, Parts I & II, Volume II, Parts I & II, and Volume III, Parts I & II. Reddish/brown marbled leather with gilt border, marbled endpapers and edges of each volume. Raised bands on spine with two areas for labels, however, nearly all the labels have since disappeared. The covers are worn & rubbed on spines, corners, and edges, some scuffing to covers and the leather on the spines of nearly all the volumes are cracking. Toronto: Thomas Allen, 1923. First Edition. Very Good/Fair DJ. 16mo = 6-7". n/a. Printing Not Spec. Card covers with paper wrapper. Illustrated front dustwrapper panel is entirely separated from rest of wrapper, has a number of tiny edge tears, on 3/4 inch horizontal tear. Paper on spine is coming up at bottom, back panel has a small chip and tiny edge tears, wapper is lightly browned. Previous owner's name and the date 1926 written neatly in pen on front free endpaper. Pages very clean, a little browned, no marks, no tears, made with fine, thick-stock paper. Front hinge somewhat loose but binding is still very good, all pages fully intact. Can provide more photos.

Green cloth covers have gilt lettering and border decoration on front and spine, decoration and lettering are bright and not faded. Some bumping and wear on top/bottom of spine and corners. The R and T in Wharton's last name on front cover have some wear in the cloth on the top of those two letters. Rough cut pages. Front hinge is cracked and is back hinge, but contents and covers remain fairly tight. On front endpapers there is darkened area that appears to be from a piece of paper that had left in the book and faded onto paper. A series of sketches about Italy.

Some bumping on top/bottom of spine and corners. Boxed - cracked at corners, some pieces of edges are broken off, soiled. Illustrated endpapers. 30 tipped in colored plates and a few illustrations on page in b/w. Hinges are slightly shaken. Beautiful book by an artist known for his poster artwork.

Volumes 1 and 2 are blue cloth, volume 3 is yellow cloth, all three have the same embossed lettering and illustrations on front cover and spine, with embossed title in gilt on spine. Volumes 1 and 2 have cracked hinges, considerable edge wear and mottled back covers, page edges browned, interior pages generally clean with a little foxing or small brown stains here and there, spines pushed forward, binding has play but all pages intact, flower-patterned endpages. Back cover of volume 1 is quite loose in binding, three pages of publisher's ads in back, there may be more that are missing. Volume 2 has several pages of ads for Louisa May Alcott's books, each with a nearly full-page illustration. This is the third volume in a series of which the first two were edited by John Redman Coxe. This edition is of the New Series, which was edited by Thomas Cooper, one of the best known scientists of the time and Professor of Chemistry at Dickinson College and then the University of Pennsylvania. Numerous diagrams and illustrations including foldouts. All leather covers over boards with gilt decoration and lettering. Appears to be a First Edition but not stated. Leather is well-worn and faded. Title page is loose, otherwise binding is good. Foxing throughout. Gift note on front free endpaper and previous owner's stamp on secondary title page.

One of the earliest reference books on Nazi Edged weapons. In his first volume of monumental work on Nazi daggers, in 1975, Thomas Johnson refers to this work as extremely difficult to acquire.

Original 1759 edition "Compiled from the most eminent French Historians, for the Instruction of the Children of a noble Family.To which are prefixed, the names of all the Provinces, their Capital Cities and Parliaments, and the Rivers that run through the country. " Leather boards are in well used condition, corners are bumped. Binding is tight and square, Pages are tanned with age and some stains but completely readable, "Accurate Map of France" is missing.
