A one-of-a-kind historical document for serious collectors, on May 21, 1963 the U.S. State Department sponsored a luncheon for astronaut Gordon Cooper in honor of his successful 22-orbit flight in Faith-7 on May 15-16, 1963, this is the four-page program that was handed out at the event, it is signed by six of the seven original astronauts on the front, the second page contains a quote from President Kennedy and a list of the six Mercury flights, page three contains the luncheon menu and the back page has a photograph of Cooper, also included is the guest list which does not include astronaut John Glenn's name - proof that he wasn't there to sign it, this event took place in the Benjamin Franklin Room and this unique document was obtained by us from a former State Department employee who personally obtained the signatures, the program is printed on heavy-stock paper and is flawless, it is housed in a manila State Department envelope, the… Leer más

Hardcover with dustjacket, first printing of this scarce publication as stated on copyright page and features a frontis photograph of the poet, book has mild tanning to the spine and edge of the green cloth, tanning to the blank end-papers, outer page-edge, and a portion of page 93, an ownership inscription is present on the front end-paper and there is a very mild lean to the spine, all of these flaws are minor, the book remains clean and presentable, the binding is tight and the contents are in nice shape, the jacket has a 1-inch chunk missing from the top of the rear panel and a few smaller edge-chips, moderate tanning to the spine and folds, the jacket is clean, the original price (2.50) is present and a professional (removable) mylar cover is included, "Now, for the first time, her poems, previously scattered through eight books, are brought together in one volume" .

Hardcover with dustjacket, the original edition with the scarce original dustjacket, the book is near pristine, a couple of minor flaws only: a bit of softening to the cloth at top edge of spine and a hint of tanning to the blank end-papers, the jacket is age-darkened on the spine and along the flap-folds, mild darkening on the rear panel, the spine-tips and corners show wear and there are two tears along the spine-folds, also a short edge-tear at the bottom of the rear panel, the front panel illustration is attractive but a few small, faint tanned imperfections (not foxing) are present, flaps are bright, quite presentable overall with a professional (removable) mylar cover provided, with eight illustrations by J. Hardcover, originally published in two volumes, this copy has both volumes rebound in contemporary (later 19th century) brown leather spine and corners, four raised spine-bands cream/brown marbled boards, this is an exquisite copy, mild rubbing at the corners and on the bottom edge is the only remarkable flaw, the binding is tight and square, very clean inside and out and the contents are in amazing shape, you'll find a bit of mild tanning here and there and a few gently corner-creased pages but the overall appearance of the pages is excellent with no foxing or soiling, 90 pages of text in Volume 1, 73 pages of text in Volume 2 plus a total of 168 engraved plates, varying number of plates have been listed for this publication and also the numbering of the plates may differ from volume to volume .

Illustrated with a color frontis of a coat-of-arms and two other color plates, portraitures, large fold-out "Lines of Descent" chart, this is a very well preserved copy, the binding is tight and the contents are fine, moderate foxing is present on some of the pages but it is confined to the margins, also some discoloration and a few small stains to the cover ; 587 pages .
