A lovely reprint capturing much of the character of the original with embossed penguin to front board matching that of the First Edition.. Doorly was Third Officer on Scotts relief ship the Morning in 1902-3 and 1903-4, serving under Capt. William Colbeck, who had sailed with Borchgrevink, and under Second Officer Edward Evans. Colbeck was going to write an account of the voyages but when this didnt happen Doorly undertook the effort. He produced not only a very interesting, pleasant and readable first hand account but also one of the scarcest books of Antarctic exploration. The book records the discovery of Scott Island and the first landing on Beaufort Island, and personal impressions of the Southern party upon their return..
