Northampton (MA): Hopkins, Bridgeman and Company, 1853. A later edition, after many others, beginning with the extremely rare 1707 first edition printed in Boston. 8vo, pp. 192. Illustrated with a frontispiece and a portrait. Bound in contemporary worn cloth (stained, etc). Some toning and staining, but a good copy. See Howes W461. Shaw & Shoemaker 3561; Ayer 391. The rare 1707 first edition was printed in Boston. One of the most famous and most popular captivity narratives. Williams, a Harvard graduate in charge of the church at Deerfield when it was attacked by Indians in 1703, was taken with others to Canada. His wife and two of his children were tomahawked on the way. "As a powerful picture of Indian cruelty, ranks next to the Rowlandson captivity narrative, published in 1682." - Howes.
