A collection of works, separately paginated but only the first and second to last with separate title pages, the others with half titles - the latter dated 1690 and published a Francheville. Clean internally, old author names penned to titles, trimmed a touch close on the first title and half title. 157 (3)pp; 46pp; 8pp; 48pp; 34pp. This was Bougeant's most famous work for which he was accused of heresy (claiming that demons inhabited animals) and imprisoned. First published in 1560, Melanchthon's Corpus was a posthumous collection of his works that was used as a sort of Lutheran Catechism and as such, was one of the guiding documents of early Lutheranism. Staining and browning, mostly early on, scattered stains elsewhere, some discoloration and worming in the inner margin, minor loss of at the bottom in the gutter of the first few leaves, repair to bottom margin of second leaf, scattered early marginal notes early on. Mostly clean otherwise and still very good overall. Extracted from the first complete edition of Boëthius's Opera, foliated (iv), 160-250 with a few errors, but complete. The commentary is attributed to Aquinas but is thought to be by Thomas Waleys (1318-1349). Printed in Venice in two parts in 1491 and 1492 (Part one was printed in 1492), and reprinted with a third part also by Gregorius in 1497/98. The first part, complete unto itself, of a two part incunabula first published in 1497. The second part, not present, is a political tract entitled De optimo statu et principe. The Declamatio is a dialogue between a philosopher, a physician, and an orator each arguing the primacy of their profession. In a 1/4 morocco slipcase and chemise. 12 (of 40 in the two part work) leaves. With a 1497 date in the colophon unchanged from the first edition, but thought to possibly be printed after 1500. Very Good Condition. 2 volumes bound in one in contemporary mottled calf; worn, leather chipped at the head of the spine, scattered mild foxing, small stain to first title. Complete with the half titles, reuniting the two parts of Paine's treatise on democracy and revolution that were published a year apart. There are two editions dated May 1791 on the title page with no clear priority between them: this copy with foux on page 162 and F.S. for the translator on the title. The first part was translated from the original English edition that was almost immediately edited and softened. Paine was a star in France, an enlightenment philosopher of the first order, and a frequent guest along with the likes of Franklin, Jefferson and Adam Smith at the salon at the Hôtel de la Monnaie.
