First and only separate life-time edition of Russian all-time favourite playwright Alexander Ostrovsky (1823–1886).
Rare lithographed edition (from the manuscript text) of a play Hard-earned Bread used in theatre rehearsals.
The play was first performed at the Maly Theater on 28 November 1874. This edition was signed by censorship on 21 December.
Very rare.

Mavrina started illustrated children books since 30s as well as some other Russian avantgarde artists due to less censorship in this genre in USSR. Mavrina is the only Russian artist who won Hans Christian Andersen Award for illustration.
