This extensively illustrated edition shows one of the masters of the early 20th century at the height of his talents. Printed on heavy stock and featuring examples of several styles, many consider this to be among Pogány's finest works.

Ethel Hays-illustrated edition (possibly 1st, but no indication from which to draw a conclusion). A lavishly illustrated adaptation of Beatrix Potter's most famous tale, featuring the illustrations of Ethel Hays, famed cartoonist and the Saalfield Publishing company's go-to illustrator for their Raggedy Ann storybooks, coloring books and paper dolls. Rather than go for Potter's naturalistic watercolors, Hayes chooses to infuse Peter with a more childlike friendly appeal using bright colors to create a vibrant whimsical world for Peter and his friends.

First edition. A wonderful retelling of a popular Japanese folktale, wonderfully brought to life in watercolor and pastel paintings in the style of 18th century Japanese woodcuts. A beautiful mandarin duck is captured and caged by a greedy lord who wants to show off the bird's magnificent plumage. But the wild creature pines for his mate. When Yasuko, the kitchen maid, releases the bird against her lord's command, she and the one-eyed servant, Shozo, are sentenced to death. The grateful bird intends to return their kindness, but can he outsmart the cruel lord?

JONES, Diana Wynne. A Tale of Time City. [London]: Methuen [1987].8vo, 285pp. Light gray cloth with spine stamped in red. Pages aged, as always (due to the high acid content of the paper used), else a fine copy in original color pictorial dust jacket. Signed by the author, Diana Wynne Jones.
First UK edition. It is September 1939, the start of World War Two, and Vivian Smith is being evacuated. On arriving at the station, she is kidnapped by two boys, Jonathan and Sam, and taken to Time City, which exists outside of what we know as History. There the three encounter powerful forces and must work together to preserve history as we know it. A wonderful, time-travel fantasy by one of the masters of modern children's fantasy.

Color pictorial endpapers; 27 full-page color illustrations. Spine a bit sunned with some rubbing at ends, else an internally clean, bright copy.
First edition, second printing, having open quotes at the start of p. 39 and the letter "N" present in "London" on the title page. The charming tale of a country mouse who accidentally makes his way into the city and befriends a city mouse, based on the fable by Aesop. A lovely copy of one of the final books in Potter's beloved Peter Rabbit books. Linder p. 430, Quinby 25.

Color pictorial endpapers; 15 color plates and b&w illustrations throughout. Spine ends lightly rubbed, slight foxing to edges of sheets, minute traces of hand-soiling, else a clean, bright copy.
First edition. Published the year the Beatrix Potter was married and settled down to farming life for good, this is a charming tale of a pig meeting his soulmate. Potter had been keeping pigs on her farm and she sketched them for this story, using her own farmyard as the setting.

JONES, Diana Wynne. A Tale of Time City. [London]: Methuen [1987]. 12mo, 285pp. Grey boards with spine stamped in dark red. Pages a bit yellowed (as always), else a fine copy in original color pictorial dust jacket. Signed by the author, Diana Wynne Jones.
First edition. It's London in 1939. Vivian Smith thinks she is being evacuated to the countryside, because of the war. But she is being kidnapped – out of her own time! Her kidnappers are Jonathan and Sam, two boys her own age, from a place called Time City, designed especially to oversee history. But now history is going critical, and Jonathan and Sam are convinced that Time City's impending doom can only be averted by a twentieth-century girl named Vivian Smith. Too bad they have the wrong girl. A thrilling, and often funny, story from this master of children's fantasy.

Black cloth decoratively stamped in red and gilt. 4 b&w plates. Spine ends, corners, and bottom edge all lightly worn, spine slightly cocked, some slight to covers, endpapers a bit aged, a touch of foxing to title, frontispiece, and tissue guard, contents lightly shaken and with a few pages hand-soiled. Still an attractive book with a surprisingly bright spine.
First edition. Frances Hodgson Burnett's first novel! A spirited heroine raised in grim, impoverished surroundings with a brutal, abusive father, struggles to protect those weaker than herself and falls for a man above her social station. Classically Victorian.

LAWSON, Robert.

Scarce!
First edition. 1941 Caldecott Medal Winner! Told through his own family's history, Robert Lawson brings us on a journey through American history through the eyes of himself as a child. With evocative images on every other page, Robert Lawson demonstrates his masterful skill with pen-and-ink that made him one of the foremost illustrators of the era and the only person to ever win both a Newbery and Caldecott Medal.

First edition, reinforced library binding. The 15th title in M. Sasek's This Is series. One of the more uncommon titles in Sasek's delightful series, and only one that hasn't been reissued. A wonderful primer into the United Nations as it was in the late 1960's, by the beloved Czech author.

A fine copy in original color pictorial dust jacket (medal not affixed). Signed by the author, Caldecott Medalist Jon Klassen on the title page, with a drawing of a crab on the opposing leaf.

The Three Pigs is a children's picture book published in 2001, the book is based on the traditional tale of the Three Little Pigs, though in this story they step out of their own tale and wander into others, depicted in different illustration styles. Wiesner won the 2002 Caldecott Medal for his illustrations, Wiesner's second of three such medals. This is a poster distributed by the publisher and signed by the artist! The wonderful full color illustration jumps right off the page. Measuring 24.5" x 17".
