Sauk City, Wisconsin: Arkham House, 1948 Hardcover. Black cloth "Novelex" binding with gold lettering to spine. With original, un-clipped dust jacket. Octavo (5" x 7 ⅜"). 228pp. *** Publisher Arkham House was established in 1939 in Sauk City, Wisconsin, by August Derleth and Donald Wandrei specifically to publish stories by H.P. Lovecraft and others whose works had mostly been printed in the "Weird Tales" magazine and remained unavailable in book form. *** Clark Ashton Smith was a poet and a sculptor, before gaining popularity as a short-story writer for "Weird Tales". This collection contains stories concerning "Genius Loci" - a classical term meaning "guardian spirits of places". This sums up the atmosphere of these stories nicely, with their aura of brooding presences somewhat akin to Algernon Blackwood's famous story, "The Willows". *** The dust jacket design is by American artist Frank Wakefield. *** Condition: A Near Fine, fresh copy with no ownership marks or underlining, in a Near Fine dust… Leer más

Poore from David, Christmas 1903." Condition: Lightly bent top corners, small bump, light scratch and spotting to front cover and spine (see photos). Rear cover less spotted, but with one small lifted bubble at top of board. Interior very clean, with only some light foxing to front pastedown, otherwise text block is tight, and lightly age-toned. She was born in Marksville, Aroyelles Parish, Louisiana before the Civil War. In 1879… Leer más

Italic and Roman print. Collation: pp [4] 1-53 [3] where pages are numbered on recto only. a4 A4 B4 C8-H8. (Page 23 is mis-numbered page 21.) Condition: Very Good antiquarian condition. The vellum binding has been proffessionaly mended in the past, and is firm. There is a bit of "grafitti "in old ink in a few places. Title page shows an old ink spill, and there is some water staining and edge soiling in the first signature. A small hole on B2 does not affect text. More ink spatter appears on D2, and a bit of old ink graffiti is on p. 43 and affects the final illustration on p.53, with offset to the prior page. Descripción:
New York: Joan Kahn for Harper & Row, 1970 Hardcover, with dust jacket, in mylar cover, 181 pp. Detective Sergeant Ross Hogan of the LAPD is called to investigate the death of a junkie found on the beach. The corpse turns out to be a former colleague's ex-wife, and solving what looks like a murder opens a path toward redemption for the alcoholic ex-policeman. After enjoying the success of an Edgar Award for his first novel, Silver Street, published in 1968, author E. Richard Johnson had followed up with a number of other successful titles. Around the time of this publication, however, the convicted murderer and armed bank robber was on a personal downward spiral. As one biographer wrote, "the success and acclaim had not been enough to keep him out of trouble. Drugs, a prison escape, a return to crime on the outside, recapture, meant the hope of a reduction in his sentence evaporated. Condition: Very Good, with a Very Good dust jacket. Some fading to spine and spotting to fore edge of text block, as… Leer más
