A vintage matte-finish portrait photograph of the Explorer Richard E. Byrd by theesteemed Photographer Louis Fabian Bachrach.
Signed and Inscribed in fountain pen by Byrd, "Oct. 12, 1927, To Mr. Bachrach, with best wishes, R. E. Byrd."
A lovely portrait of Byrd, signed just three months after his famous transatlantic flight, and presented to a pioneer of portrait photography. Rare thus.
In fine condition, with lightly trimmed borders.
The Bachrach Photography Studio was established in 1868, in Maryland (US) by David Bachrach. His son, Louis Fabian Bachrach (1881-1963), was taught photography by his Father and started to run the business from the 1920s. Louis Fabian Bachrach expanded the business after taking over from his Father, setting up studios across the US, where he photographed many of the rich and famous of the time. He was awarded numerous honours for his contributions to photography, and under his stewardship, the Bachrach name became synonymous with fine portrait photography. (University of… Leer más

Descripción:
First Edition. 8vo., lithograph-printed by McLagan & Cumming of Edinburgh, illustrated with 16 tipped-in colour plates within decorative calligraphic borders. Finely bound in Publisher's red morocco gilt, the cover picked out with four green leaf leather onlays, top-edge gilt, others uncut, marbled endpapers, housed in Publisher's pictorial box en suite with tissue guard. Published by George G. Harrap & Co (London), 1909.
Light spotting to the endpapers, the occasional very minor blemish, otherwise a fine copy. The rare original Publisher's pictorial box, a little rubbed and marked, very good.
This copy has an interesting and notable provenance, having previously been owned by the descendants of William Hamilton, an art-binder employed by the Harrap bindery.
A wonderful production of this magisterial work, and with the presence of the rare original Publisher's pictorial box.
