Inscribed by legendary writer/director/ producer George Abbott to Jane and Bob Emerson who managed the Drama Book Shop in Manhattan for many years on the ffe: "To Bob and Jane Regards George Abbott". Book's leaves are toned. Dustjacket is toned, more to rear panel, which is missing a large piece top edege rear panel. Along with "Damn Yankees", "Pajama Game", arguably the highpoint of Abbott's fabulous career.

Facsimile, reduced in size but proportioned, of the original illustrations of Henry Thomas Aiken (1784-1851) published by S. and F. Fuller in 1820 on rollers or mounted as a series of drawings. Alken is known for illustrated works on British sport and social manners as 'Jorrock's Jaunts and Jollities': Panorama was the forerunner of Nimrod's 'The Life of a Sportsman'. With a new preface and commentary by C.F.G.R. Schwerdt. Oblong folio, stiff printed wrappers, limited edition #124/400 copies, signed by Schwerdt. 15 colored plates - for a total of 35 pictures - mounted on 5 leaves, with descriptive letterpress facing each page. Original plates destroyed. Covers a tad solied with a few short tears and a small chip. Sheets near fine. Scarce.

Near fine copy - no ownership or children's marks - in price-clipped dustjacket that would be almost near fine, except the rear dw flap is 2/3 missing. Still, a sharp looking copy of a Lenski title not often found, except in reprint version.

Faint waterstain no more than 1/4" deep top margin for a few signatures in Lost, otherwise internals quite bright and nice.

The deluxe edition is cloth over decorated boards. one of three hundred numbered copies, specially bound, and signed by the author and artist. The trade edition is plane cloth in pictorial dustjacket, one of 1000 copies. Both as new all over.

Uncommon first US edition. John Angell James (1785 - 1859) was an English Non-conformist clergyman of Congregational faith, his doctrine moderate Calvinism. He was a prolific author of religious texts and keenly involved in missionary endeavours and a supporter of the London Missionary Society.

Sobreitero de Cuandernos Americanos, 1967. 1st Edition. Soft cover. Fine. A finely preserved, inscribed copy of anti-war paper by Risieri Frondizi, Argentian philosopher, anthropologist and one of that country's pre-eminent intellectuals. Frondizi (1910 - 1983) spent his early career in academe at the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán, where he served from its founding in 1937 as its' director of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters through 1946, when he was dismissed when Juan Peron's came to power. In the late 1950s Frondizi became rector of the University of Buenos Aires. In 1958, his brother Arturo Frondizi became president of a civilian government but was overthrown in 1962 by a military coup that supported the return of Perón. Another military coup in June 1966 led to the forcible clearing of facilities of the University of Buenos Aires - an event known as La Noche de los Bastones Largos ("The Night of the Long Batons") - and over 300 university professors, including Frondizi, were exiled.… Leer más

Bound in front is a Preface dated Dec 18th, 1832 and a Preface to the American Edition on the verso of the title page dated New York November 28, 1833, acknowledging how new printing machinery, newly imported, greatly facilitates production but a large circulation at its price is required "to progress through the press and distribution through this extensive country" Covers worn, some loss to calf over spine. Internally, aged with some incidental staining at rear, which has an index added.

Warmly inscribed and dated Christmas 1959 by anthropologist Mead to the grandchildren of author and close friend Edith Cobb, whom Mead met at Columbia University while Cobb was doing graduate studies. Some rubbing to spine largely confined to about an inch square chip at the spine head of dustjacket which has some closed tears here and there. Still a highly presentable item.

Presumed first edition of the Play Edition with 'The Story of the Play' by actress Constance Collier, who appeared in the stage production. 8vo, reddish-brown woven cloth, titles stamped in gold, gte, sides untrimmed, in sepia pictorial dustjacket, vii (viii -xvi) (1) 3- 418. Illustrated with drawings from the original publication by Du Maurier, plus 8 duotone photos of scenes or players from the stage version, which featured John Barrymore in the title role, and his brother Lionel in a a supporting part. Du Maurier's novel was published in 1891; the play had its US premiere at the Republic Theatre in New York on April 18, 1917. It was adapted from the novel by John N. Raphael, a London newspaper correspondent, twenty years prior, who showed his work to actress Constance Collier, who was eager to bring it to America, hence her introduction in this edition. Laid is a USPS postcard stamped June 5, 1967, typed and signed by Matthiessen to Harold Corbin - poet, antique collector, devotee of Frost - at Lake Forest Academy in Illinois where Corbin at the time was head of school. Matthiessen, in a five line note, thanks "Mr Corbin. for your kind letter and poems. I'm happy to have them, especially (your) wind bird poem, which I like from a literary point of view as well as because of my ornithological prejudice." Stapled to the postcard is a scrap card on which Corbin notes Matthiessen's address and the titles of the poems he sent him. Also laid-in is Orirana Press' prospectus for this title.

Green cloth covers, titles stamped in darker green. Pictoial dustjacket, prce-clipped, soiled and showing some loss about edges. Still, fairly presentable.

This copy of issue 1 is a limited edition of only 500 copies for sale, and this is especially numbered "HS (Lors serie) JS 20 of the surplus review copies" and then signed by publisher Alan Davidson. Scarce thus. All clean, solid copies - very good or better or near fine.
