Lyon: Pierre Masson, 1929. First Edition. Good with scattered foxing and some loss at the spine in a fair glassine dust jacket with numerous tears and loss.. First edition. 4to. 184pp.: ill., 20 folded leaves of plates. An interesting work on the cathedral's gothic architecture.

New York: Collins and Hannay, 1833. Good with some loss to spine and heavy loss to spine label in publisher's red cloth boards.. Scarce printing of Scott's epic poem originally published in 1810. 16mo. [viii], [9]-178pp. Worldcat locates two copies at the time of cataloguing.

Firenze [Florence]: G. Barbera, 1901. Very good with some staining to the vellum and yellowing to the pages, as could be expected for cheaper reprint editions.. A charming 32mo reprint of Petrarch bound in full vellum likely by Ferdinando Ongania with his sticker to the front pastedown. The vellum is gilt throughout and also a gauffered and gilt top edge. As with many of the vellum bound reprints from the 19th-early 20th centuries, these were in booksellers shops catering to tourists.

London: Macmillan & Co, 1882. First Edition. Very good in publisher's dark green linen w/gilt title to spine. Prior owner's bookplate and ownership inscription.. First edition of the collection of lectures by important individuals connected with the Society for the Protection of Ancient Monuments. William Morris was the Society's founder, primary mover, and who contributed to this work. Contents are R.S. Poole on "The Egyptian Tomb and the future state", Prof. William Blake Richmond on "Monumental Painting", Edward John Poynter on "Some remarks on Ancient Decorative Art", J.T. Mickelthwaite on "English Parish Churches". William Morris on "The History of Pattern Designing" and "The Lesser Arts of Life". 8vo. x, 232pp. Buxton Forman 64 ("an entirely pleasant volume").

London: Bell & Daldy, 1867. First Edition. About very good. Spine slightly faded and frayed to spine ends. Inner hinges splitting but holding firm.. First edition. With the ownership signature of Alfred Baldwin, notably the father of PM Stanley Baldwin, and on occasion in written correspondence with Morris. More notable as the brother-in-law of Georgiana Burne-Jones. His wife, Louisa, along with Jane Morris, and her sisters Agnes and Georgiana are thought to be the inspiration for figures of Burne-Jones' 1864 painting "Green Summer." The Church of All Saints, Wilden, which Baldwin paid for construction were replaced with 14 designs by Burne-Jones, and which are dedicated to their respective families. Stourbridge: Heming and Tallis, 1814. The rare sole edition of the separately printed pamphlet, containing excerpts of Banck's A Short Critical Review of the Political Life of Oliver Cromwell. . ., originally published in 1739 (though many of the passages in the instant work are lifted verbatim not from the 1739 first edition but the 1742 second edition). This edition largely removes Banck's polemic and commentary, leaving only 21 pages from a work originally running over 300 pages. 12mo. [2], [7]-28pp., frontis. Apparently unrecorded with no copies located on OCLC or Library Hub as of November 2021. Good in modern paper boards, stamped number to endpaper, pages rather age-toned, edges a bit ragged, one leaf loose but present.

York: J. Kendrew, 1820. Very good in stitched paper wraps with light soiling to covers.. A charming 48mo chapbook. In its 16 pages, it was able to fit 16 woodcuts. Kendrew, despite being a provincial printer in York was one of the most prominent printers of nineteenth century children's chapbooks until his death in 1841. This instant book was from his series of twenty-four 16-page halfpenny chapbooks. Atkinson, Street Literature of the Long Nineteenth Century, pgs. 218-19. Uncommon in commerce as other copies appear bound as sammelbands with other chapbooks. Davis, Kendrew of York 40; Opie N 799.

Philadelphia: American Sunday-School Union, 1849. Very good in publisher's green blind-stamped cloth boards with gilt spine, some soiling/staining, wear to corners and edges, contents with moderate scattered foxing throughout though plates generally clean.. Lovely collection of short stories and poems, of the usual religious educational variety, from the American Sunday-School Union. This copy features a tissue-guarded gilted color lithograph as well as several full-page engravings. 12mo. 227pp. + color lithograph. Dated to 1849-50 based upon the copyright date of 1849, the date the offices of the Union were at 146 Chestnut Street, and February 1850 ownership inscription on the recto of frontispiece.

Good plus in publishers gilt stamped blue cloth with some wear to corners and rippling to the cloth, contents generally clean with minor penciling on a few pages.. Scarce first edition in English of the minor German childrens' works. Morgan, A Critical Bibliography of German Literature in English Translation at 263. 3 copies located on Worldcat at the time of cataloguing.

London: C. Bathurst . . . [and 35 Others], 1781. First separate edition. Joints are starting or weak, leather is dry, and bumping and chipping to corners and spine, else very good.. First separate edition. Courtney calls Lives of the Poets Johnson's "second great work," simple in style and expression but which "appealed to every man of letters in the three kingdoms." This copy with somewhat interesting provenance, contemporary ownership signature on all volumes of Richard Milles (probably the Tory MP, died 1820), whose daughter Reynolds painted. Also present is a later bookplate of Nina McAlpin, ex-relative by marriage to David Hunter McAlpin, III, making it possible that this particular set was owned by David Hunter McAlpin, Sr., the famed collector of British history and theology. A broadside mystery, which does not feature any imprint or other readily identifying marks, and we cannot locate further information on the same, thus leaving a researcher or collector the ability to make the first discovery.

A pleasing copy in three quarter leather with some wear to leather, particular at the hinges, which are starting, otherwise very good.. The "New Edition" includes 18 full page unpaginated plates by the esteemed "Phiz". Rather scarce in commerce compared to the first edition. 8vo. [11], 470pp. + 18 leaves of plates. First edition. Lytton Strachey's copy, with his Dora Carrington-designed bookplate to the verso. With faded addresses which appear to be in Strachey's hand on the rear wrap.
