Now housed in a custom chemise and green morocco-backed slipcase.. First Edition. With crest on wrapper, title page, and with woodcut on the last page. Wilde's first book. Wilde's poem was the Newdigate Prize winner for 1878, presented at Oxford University for best poetry. "During a vacation ramble in 1877 [Wilde] started from Greece, [and] visiting Ravenna by chance on the way, he obtained material for a poem on that ancient city, and singularly enough, Ravenna was afterwards given out as the topic for the Newdigate competition." (Hamilton, The Aesthetic Movement in England, as quoted by Mason, pg. 243). 8vo. 16pp. Mason, pg. 241.

London: Chapman and Hall, 1896. Very good but somewhat cocked, wear to edges.. Joseph Conrad's copy with the Hodgsons 1925 auction dispersement label. Volume II only, the first volume's whereabouts remain a mystery despite our attempts to locate the same.

Good plus in original blue paper boards backed in drab paper, later printed paper labels to spines, soiling, spotting and wear to boards, spines repaired at some point, some insect damage to boards of vol. III, flyleaf to vol. I excised, with bookplates of O.C. Skinner to pastedowns covering earlier bookplates, ownership signatures of C. Davenport, Welford Rectory, to surviving endpapers. Nevertheless, desirable given the original boards.. Triple decker first edition in publisher's blue boards. The novel chronicles the start of a fictional third Jacobite Rebellion, and includes Wandering Willie's Tale, a short story which frequently appears in Scott anthologies. Very good, without half-titles or catalogue, all edges marbled, half leather over marbled boards, bookplate on all volumes which browns flyleaf, gift inscription to title page of all volumes, corners worn.. First Edition, Worthington's second state. One of the later Waverley novels about the Bonnie Prince contemplating waging a fictional third Jacobite Rebellion. Good plus in contemporary rebacked leather with some edgewear, few short closed tears, endpapers with light chipping, staining to pastedowns, prior owner bookplate and ink signatures, light to moderate foxing in various places.. First Edition. A collection of ballads, songs, sonnets, and romances that captivated the British public, and influenced many of the most notable authors over the subsequent century. Walter Scott ready Percy's Reliques in his youth, stating "and henceforth I overwhelmed my schoolfellows, and all who would hearken to me, with tragical recitations from the ballads of Bishop Percy." (Millgate, Walter Scott: the Making of a Novelist, 1987; Mahoney, Some Antiquarian and Literary Influences of Percy's Reliques, 1964). A visually appealing volume printed by Charles Whittingham at the Chiswick Press with engraved frontispiece, woodcut initial letters, and the use of an old face font which Whittingham introduced in 1843. 8vo.
