Signed by the author, stated as discoverer, Graham Clarke. Inscription reads 'For Mollie with all good wishes from Graham Clarke'. This is the first edition. This 'notebook' is claimed to have been discovered by Clarke in the lining of an ancient leather jerkin. It depicts the bard's teenage years in an 'intimate, autobiographical' form and is printed in 'his own idiosyncratic hand'. The author, Graham Clarke, is an author, artist, illustrator and humorist. The work of irrigation engineer Sir William Willcocks, a British civil engineer during the high point of the British Empire who proposed and built the first Aswan Dam,  a gravity masonry buttress on the Nile River. Complete with a folding map: 'Plan of the Town of Leicester'. 'A Walk Through Leicester' was reportedly the first guidebook to centre on a provincial area, unlike other contemporary texts that focused on fashionable towns and city landscapes. Watts however provides an interesting and lively account of the area in her text, detailing its rich history from the Roman settlements to its nineteenth century expansion. Susanna Watts, born and raised in Leicester was in her own right a notable and inspirational figure. Beyond writing guidebooks on her town, she was heavily involved with acts of philanthropy and charitable activism.
