It was during his time in the British Isles that he gained an understanding of Scotland, which helped him write his most famous book 'The Scottish Friar. This book is a tale of the life and ecclesiastical history of George Leslie, a Scottish monk.

This is one of a 124-volume collection of Irish-related titles, uniformly bound by Hatchards for the Earl, in 3/4 dark green morocco over green cloth, spine with raised bands, and six gilt-ruled compartments, enclosing titling and two each of lyre and shamrock designs, covers paneled in gilt, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers (spine faded to brown, minor wear).
