Ovid's 'Metamorphoses' is one of the most famous works of Greek and Roman mythology and history of the 1st-century. It is known to have inspired the works of Dante, Boccaccio, Chaucer, and even Shakespeare as well as works of visual art and music. This epic poem recounts the history of the world from creation to the death of Julius Caesar.

In 1667 French poet Isaac de Benserade published a unique edition of 'Metamorphoses' – an edition completely in rondeaux form. It was rather unpopular when it was first released; however, it has since become a highly desired and incredibly valuable edition of Ovid. This work features 239 incredible illustrations along with a curious conclusion using an acrostic of the names of Louis XIV and Madame de Ludre.
