The Southern California Fruit Exchange, a cooperative of citrus growers, began in 1893. Its name was changed to the California Fruit Growers Exchange in 1905 to reflect its growing statewide presence. The growers created the Sunkist brand in 1926 to promote the high quality of its citrus. The brand and company (now Sunkist Growers) continue to this day.
