Pruebas, galeras y copias de revisión

A diferencia de las primeras ediciones, las pruebas y las copias de revisión no se imprimieron para su consumo público. Se imprimen pruebas y copias de revisión para editores, revistas y librerías seleccionadas como avances de los libros que pronto estarán disponibles. Las pruebas y las copias de revisión pueden ser diferentes al producto terminado, y estas diferencias son a veces realmente substanciales. Algunas diferencias son menores y gramaticales, mientras que otras pruebas y copias de lectura avanzada incluyen párrafos o páginas completos que se modifican antes de la primera impresión oficial.

First appeared in print under the title, "Poems (Two) 1925"; published 1930 by The Aquilla Press. Three loose 8vo sheets, previously stapled. Three of the corrections are minor but one alters the original 40th line from "Cools at the still, yeasts raise his auburn flour" to Yeast raising auburn flour." In line 47 Cunard corrects the spelling of the word, "orgu[e]illeux" by adding the e, but it never made it into the published work. Signed in pencil, "Nancy Cunard 1925'" at the bottom of the poem. Age toning, paper-clip ghost, minimal wear, else in fine condition.

London: Faber and Faber, 1975. Uncorrected Proof. Very Good. Advance uncorrected proof of the first British edition. Bound in publisher's blue wraps printed in black with review slip laid in. From the library of Irish writer Francis Stuart, with presentation inscription on the half-title from Ted Hickey reading, "For Francis Stuart from Ted Hickey 18 June 1975," five days prior to the publication date according to the penciled notation on the review slip. A further inscription in another hand reads, "Ted Hickey, Belfast. 26 March 1975." Hickey was Keeper of Art at the Ulster Museum when he commissioned a portrait of Seamus Heaney to be painted by Edward McGuire, which would be used on the rear cover of the dust jacket of the first edition. Very Good, spine toned and with two tiny droplet stains, a bit of wear to wraps. Corners bumped. A scarce, advance format of an early work by Seamus Heaney, with a nice association.

Ultra rare proof copy. 124 x 185cm, 230pp. Publisher's original buff paper wraps with titles and "PROOF COPY" to the front cover and titles and publisher's windmill device to the spine, 230pp. The wraps have been printed on the verso of an unused illustration from a previous Heinemann book, Dog Days by K F Barker, so that parts of a bull terrier in full colour can be seen on the inside of the covers. The verso of the title page states "First Published 1950 - there is a pencil note on the front cover "Sept 30/[19?]50" - though the First Edition was not published until 22nd January 1951 in an edition of 7,500 copies. It is housed in a bespoke, black cloth solander (clamshell) box with gilt titles and lined with marbled paper.
