Stout small 8vo in period 1/4 vellum backed spine and marbled paper covered boards with burgundy morocco title label and gilt ruling to spine. Snugly bound and clean with just some light shelf soiling to sides and spine. [2] - 592, [12] pp. Unpaged index at rear. Illustrated with a good number of copper plate engravins, some bound in on smaller size paper plates. Uncommon, though here only in the 2nd volume of 2 published. VG .

HC bound ina quarter leather backed spine and corners with marbled paper sides; page edges speckled. Appears to be a late 19th century rebinding. Early pedagogical "school" edition of Robertson's influential early history of America. This : : school" edition with John Frost's observation on Robertson and his questions for examination. Soundly bound and clean; prior owner names top edge of blank flyleaf and to title page. Endpapers added at the time of rebinding of poorer paper quality, browned and a bit brittle. Contents generally clean and neat with some scattered loight foxing. Illustrated with woodcuts. Shelf rubbing to the leather over spine edges and corners. VG- to VG .

Uniformly bound - 1/2 heavy gilt leather backed, marbled paper covered boards. Prior ownership of William Lewis Hughes, Lord Dinorben - with his armorial bookplate mounted to the front pastedown of each volume. Vol II fronted with a large folding map of Persia and Vol III fronted with a larger still folding, hand colored map of "Hindoostan" by Arrowsmith. A few short mended splits to folds of this large map. Ex-library copy with painted catalog #'s to base of spine, small abrasion scars to base of spines and marbled paper to top edge of upper boards. Card pockets to rear pastedowns, light ownership ink and blind stamping to front matter. Each volume with an engraved frontis illustration. Issued as part of a set on the History of England; these 4 volumes were volumes 12 -15 of that set but offered here comple thus as Bisset's work on the Reigh of George III. Binder's error/s result in the following: pages xvii - xix from contnets of Vol I misplaced at rear of Vol II, along with the terminal two leaves of Vol I (497-98) and a misplaced page of publisher's ads misplaced rear of vol II instead of Vol III. Contemporary calf boards with sympathetic professional rebacking and replaced morocco label at spine. In 12's, printed in double columns. The contents have been carefully inspected with all pages believed present, including original endsheets. Extensive family records in a close hand relating to the families of Daniel Hodgkins, his daughter Betsy Hodgkins and of Sylvanus Sparks, to whom she was wed in 1812. Family history is listed on the blank leaf between the Testaments and on the verso of the title page and blank area of the facing recto. Mild chipping to leather at spine ends; light rub through, bruising and rounding to boards at corner tips. Occasional marginal annotation from varying periods. Mild damping to margins of some leaves. Prior ownership penned at front and rear; tipped in on rear endpage is a slim slip with bookseller catalog information for this copy. A-M4; N6; O-U8; X8; Y4. Text block sound; leather distressed and worn with spine perishing and boards tenuously attached at joints. Text block trimmed with margins a bit tight. An instance of horizontal worming to the first 25 or so leaves with here and there some loss of letters but with no meaning lost. Small burnhole pg 485. With extra engraved title page. Title page a little soiled with prior ownership in dim manuscript to several early leaves. Would benefit from a rebacking restoration. Good only thus .

The plate section is not page numbered but comprises pgs [356-378] in the continuously paged text. Soundly bound in period calf with red morocco label at spine. A well preserved copy with bright clean contents and only mild wear to leather binding. Mild nicks to leather at spine ends and corners; a small spot of worming to the leather at the front joint. Light foxing to edges of first and last few leaves. Armorial bookplate of Joseph Yates Cooper to front pastedown. VG++ .

Short, mild scrapes to board edges; corners lightly bumped. A small gouge to the lower edge of the rear board. Missing the front free endpage, the book opens to the title page. Some foxing scattered in text; generally light but heavier to the first 10 or so leaves. Three or four pages with evidence of a folded corner. The first page of Davenport's Narrative has been corner creased with some stress and two short tears to the page tip. Bound with frontis, title and prelims, followed by an unsigned 8 page catlog of works published by Coignard between 1660-1692. Mild yawn in the interior front hinge. Prior ownership of Prince Franz Joseph [?] of Liechtenstein with the Princes of Liechtenstein bookplate mounted to the front pastedown. Solid and complete example of this scarce 17th century philosophical tract, first published in 1667 and attributed to Claude Ameline. VG .

Some dryness to leather at spines with mild stress crazing. Boards tenuous or detached in Vols I, II and X. Mild foxing to front and rear endmatter, but text pages generally bright and clean with a few mild instances of a shallow damp stain to a small number of pages along the top edge. Illustrated with in text woodcuts. Text block soundly bound and complete. Front board cleanly detached at the front joint; rear board sound. Endpages complete. Spotting and foxing moderate throughout. Text in two columsn; several woodcut figures. Thousands of recipes for every manner of use including for making color in paint and for cloth, varnishes and finishes, health, tonics and cures, cleaning, tanning of skins, dining, brewed and distilled spirits etc. An easy candidate for a basic repair to the front joint.
