Bess Cleavland's adaption reads like a modern cookbook, easy and attainable. Each mission is presented with a brief history and a black-and-white photo, followed by recipes that are heavily influenced by the Mexican, Spanish, and Native Americans of each area. Tucked in amongst the everyday type dishes, are recipes for the making of leaf lard, sausage, cheese, and wine; the preparation of cider, vinegar, olive oil, and raisins; the baking of bread; the corning and the curing of beef and pork. For those who appreciate the distinctive flavor of wild game, here are directions for preparing duck and quail, squirrel and rabbit meat, bear and venison. According to opencorporates.com Real Gold Citrus Products, a West Virginia based company with a branch in California, incorporated in January, 1952 and dissolved in March, 1955. The products were bottled juices and juice concentrates. Following a brief history of the California citrus industry and a short health plug is a collection of product recipes including non-alcohol punches and cocktails, salads, dressings and household uses (removing stains from brown leather shoes or add lemon juice to rinse water when washing rayon dresses.) Recipes include the contributor's name. Surface damage to the cover, missing a dime sized area of glossy paper, some pin holes and scuff. The binding is unbroken. Very Good. 1957. Hardcover. No publishing or authorship given. Stiff card with wire binding. 108 pages. Photograph cover and line drawings scattered throughout. There are a few spots but overall the text is clean without mar, tear or soil. The cover is corner creased and taped, there is damage, presumably from sticker removal. The former owner name inside front and back covers. The cover has a single sepia photo of the front of the church building, there is no address or any further information. The pages are all type face in sepia and pages are a tan color. What is clear is that many of the contributors were of European heritage. Recipes such as Cabbage Rolls (Hungarian), Finnish Finger Cookies and Fatighan Bakelser, are sprinkled liberally among Noodle Hot Dish, Chicken and Dumplings and Grape Pie.
