Eine Historisch-Kritische und Klinische Untersuchung (On Epilepsy and the Reproductive Systems of Women in their Mutual Relations. A Historical-Critical and Clinical Investigation), Dr. Nerlinger's investigation included over 100 case studies, the results of which are compiled in a fold-out statistical chart. Stated first American edition. Lowry's first novel, published posthumously, and with an introductory note by his widow. Lowry is known for his novel Under the Volcano (1947).

Illustrated monograph on little-known 18th century French miniaturist painter Francis Lainé, painter at the court of Louis XVI and a member of the Royal Academy in London and the French Academy of St-Luc. Includes a separate section of notes and documents about Lainé compiled by M.F. Rossel. Large publisher's prospectus laid in for a limited edition facsimile of Lainé's sketchbook.

Frontispiece albumen photograph portrait of Monnier evenly faded. Mild fading to black cloth, small tear near heel of spine, very good. A memorial and tribute to Isabelle née André Monnier, a native of Paris. The bulk of this book gathers writings by Monnier which appeared anonymously in 1867, two years before her death in 1869, published as Hors De L'Abîme Histoire D'une Vie De Femme. The latter approximately translates as Out of the Abyss, A Story of a Woman's Life. From page 39: "Les articles qui viennent d'être mentionnes sont reproduits plus bas. Illustrations by thespian and artist Joseph Jefferson and Frank Eugene. A Very good copy. Ruth Clement was a Quaker physician. Where she earned her medical degree is unknown, but in her book -a mixture of poetry, short stories, and a novelette incorporating Chester, County, Pennsylvania Quaker history- themes of medicine presents at least twice. (And facing the table of contents, a poem by one Dr. K.S. Guthrie is also published.) In "Joe, A Hospital Story" a young patient dues suddenly. His physician muses on his death and then has a vision about the "Divine Physician." Elsewhere she writes of doctors yore who "waxed sleek and wise in blessed unconsciousness of the coming X ray, that revised edition of physician, priest and sorcerer combined, before whose sweet oblivion antidote the mighty microbe vanished like the mist before the sun...… Leer más

[Philadelphia:] Sold by H.C. Yates, 127 Chesnut-st., January, 1825. 2½ x 6¼ inches. Folds and creasing; foxing; good. The Union Canal Company was formed in 1811 with the merger of the Schuylkill & Susquehanna Navigation Company and Delaware and the Schuylkill Canal company. Numerous lottery schemes were held to finance the company throughout the early nineteenth century.

[Philadelphia:] Press of W.P. Koebel, 870 N. 4th St., [1888]. 19pp. 9 x 5¾ inches. Original printed wrappers. Union League member E.B. Morris' name in pencil to top of front wrap. Minor edge chips to wrappers; two vertical creases; bump at fore-edge; very good. The Union League was founded in 1862 during the Civil War to support President Abraham Lincoln and Republican government and to champion the Union cause. The club's war-time history, including its efforts to recruit soldiers for Pennsylvania Volunteer regiments, is told here by the president of the Union League.

Washington, PA.: Printed by Swan & Ecker, Review & Examiner Office, 1872. [1-5] 6-80 pages. Pamphlet. 8¾ x 5¾ inches. Removed; later stapling; printed wrappers are worn and with loss. Complete text; Fair. A scarce "yearbook" -this copy is unique as it has been heavily annotated and worked over by an anonymous editor to delete or insert information about undergraduates, primarily their home addresses. This was all likely in preparation for a subsequent year's Catalogue or perhaps for a larger work. Names of trustees, faculty, students, etc. are given as well as information on courses of study, terms of admission, and so forth.

Cincinnati, 1877. Three items: Partly printed letter in blue and black ink, dated in manuscript, approximately 10 x 8 inches; printed circular approximately 11 x 8 inches; and a partly printed certificate of membership with embossed red seal with blue ribbon and with a name, signature, and date written in manuscript, approximately 11 x 17 inches. All three items with fold lines. Very good. The private United States Secret Service Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio was the publisher of the American Criminal Gazetteer. Here, their circular outlines the Rules and Regulations of the company, noting that they solicited men to join a "corps of Officers" to observe and report crime. The third requirement listed on the circular states: "All Murderers, Burglaries, Embezzlements and Thefts of an important nature, where rewards are offered (or not), must be reported at this office immediately by the officer to whom it is first made known. Vicksburg, Mississippi, March 3, 1838. [1]p. Document Signed. 10 x 8 inches. Partly printed; contemporary docketing. Folds; minor wear; some foxing; good. Legal instrument of protest signed by Alexander H. Arthur, Notary Public for the Office of the Planters' Bank of the State of Mississippi at Vicksburg. Arthur declares that he presented a bank note for $267.73 to the Planters' Bank and that the teller there "...refused to pay the same, saying that the drawers not accepted [sic] had made no deposit of funds for that purpose." Arthur's formal protest was made on behalf of "Robert Riddle, Esq., Cashier and holder of the original Note." A copy of this note, signed by H.G. Bankston and Wm. Burton, is copied out at the bottom of the document. The note had been originally issued to the firm Jennings & Drone. Docketing on the verso mentions "Damages $214.23." In addition to being a notary, Alexander H. Arthur was, at some point, the editor of the Vicksburg Tri-Weekly Whig a director of the Southern Railroad… Leer más

Light foxing; very good. bjcb 352254 An overview of the history and working mechanisms of the United States Military Academy, i.e., West Point, published in the midst of the Civil War. Mansfield's text originally appeared in the American Journal of Education and the present item is a separately-issued and stand-alone reprint. The author, Edward Deering Mansfield, was graduated from West Point in 1818 and went on to write a number of biographies on military figures such as Winfield Scott and Ulysses S. Grant.

Philadelphia: Donaldson and Co., [1881]. 118pp + [14]pp illustrated adverts. 8vo., printed wrappers. Well-illustrated. Lightly-soiled wraps, pale stain and corner crease to rear wrap; a few ruffled fore-edges to some pages. An otherwise handsome copy; Very Good. A humorously and amply-illustrated production; a top-of-the line yearbook for this Ivy League school. In addition to a History of the Class of 1881, Class Prophecy, and Class Poem, the yearbook contains much on school societies, clubs, and athletic teams. There is also a section on "Secret Fraternities" and caricatures of students and faculty members, plus humorous poetry etc. Even one of the advertisements at the end is a spoof: "A Good Looking Young Lady Wants to Secure a Husband from among the Members of the Graduating Class... N.B. -A tall gentleman, with muscular arm, and little side-whiskers preferred."

Khodasevich (1886-1939), emigré Russian poet and critic, written to his wife. Volume 3 in the series "Modern Russian Literature and Culture, Studies and Texts."

Publisher's three-quarter cloth with paper-covered boards and gilt spine label; glassine wrapper. Fine in near fine publisher's slipcase. Illustrated edition of Up from Slavery, Black educator and race leader Booker T. Washingtons critically acclaimed autobiography, first published in 1901 and translated into 18 languages. Washington writes about being born into slavery in Virginia and describes the foundation of the influential Black school in Alabama, the Tuskegee Institute. "The account of Washington's struggles and successes [in Up from Slavery] which he achieved through persistence and self-reliance was influential in interesting men like Andrew Carnegie and Henry H. Rogers in Tuskegee. Royalties from the book were also a source of income for the school." Slight discoloration to front wrap on left side; a very good clean and attractive copy. Flake 1465 provides the publication date of 1903; "A tourist brochure given out at Temple Square, Salt Lake City." Subtitled: "Complements of Bureau of Information and Church Literature." Illustrations within show prominent buildings and iconic images associated with the Mormon faith as well as civic and prominent public buildings notable within Salt Lake City.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin: Hal Leonard Corporation, (2001). [6]pp. Sheet Music. Tri-fold with illustrated cover from a photograph. Near Fine. Sheet music with lyrics and guitar chords for the 2001 single "Uh-Huh" by the boy band B2K (Boys of the new Millennium). The song was released on B2K's self-titled 2002 debut album which became the number one R&B/Hip-Hop album in its first week. It made the "Billboard Hot 100" and was number 20 on the "Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs" chart.
