Whiston was also an ordained minister, and was rector of Lowestoft from 1698-1699. He was a Boyle lecturer in 1707, in which position he defended the position of biblical literalism. Also, the stamp of John Price, Salem is on the ffep. **The moral tales written by Mrs. Hofland were extremely popular juvenile fiction in the early nineteenth century, both in America and their native England.
